Very new to all this, so please try and be patient with me. thank you

I downloaded a movie which came as an AVI. the picture quality is perfect but the audio is extremely low, i have to have the volume right up and then i have a terrible buzzing noise ( i should think this would be normal seeming the volume is on full). the audio is still very very low

i have seen around here to use "gspot" to see what the file uses, I hope i leave the right information
---------------------------------------------------------------
"gspot info"

Audio
Codec : 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3 VBR
Info : 48000Hz 82 kb/s tot , Joint Stereo

Video
codec : XVID
Name :XviD ISO MPEG-4
---------------------------------------------------------------
any help would be fantastic.
and please as i said i am VERY new to this.
thank you so much for your time

If the audio can be adjusted satisfactorily - it must also be recoded.

Run VirtualDub and open/drag the avi onto the window.
Click 'Audio' > 'Full processing mode' then 'Audio' > 'Adjust Volume'.
Set a volume adjustment.
Use the I or O buttons (circled, lower left) to compare the results.
If the result is satisfactory - exit VirtualDub and install the Lame mp3 codec.
Restart VirtualDub and repeat the volume adjustment as before.
Now click 'Audio' > 'Compression' and select the Lame mp3 filter.
Select 48000,128,CBR,Stereo.
Click 'Video' > 'Direct Stream Copy' (because you don't want to recode the video part).
Click 'File' > 'Save as AVI..'

Clicking 'Audio' > 'Full processing mode' only turns on 'full processing'.
Subsequent actions require selecting the 'Audio' menu again.
