i have wanted to do this for a long time and it looks like the time is here. i can all most taste it. i want to be able to watch movies directly from a ftp server.

i am using rapidshare and with the current terms of service i have unlimited space unlimited use and secure storage for over 10 years. i would like to upload movies to the server and then watch them on my htpc or iphone. i can do this with mpeg4/mp3 files but i have not figured out how to do it with Avi files.

i just found the standalone divx web player but that doesn't work. i tried vlc, kmp, winamp, mpc, gom, ...... and rapidshare has a web player that is supposed to play Avi files but not for me. for whatever reason it won't work. i tried the firewall, and even set up an ftp folder in windows so i can navigate to the files.

music works great. using winamp i can navigate to a server page and make a playlist of all the tracks. i can do the same thing with avi but it won't play? it will play the same file if i have it on my HD. if i encode the video to mpeg4 it works great on the iphone and in itunes. what is the problem doing this with avi?

the only work around i have found is to download the file using the firefox down-loader. as it is downloading, drag the temp file into gom player. that works great. what there has to be a solution.
