Playback problem on USB flash drives

I have some AVI (DivX) and MPEG-1 video files from 25M to 500M, and I can play them all well with Windows Media Player 11 on my harddisk. However, when I copy them to any of my USB flash drives (FAT32), WMP cannot play them again, even if I copy the files back to my harddisk, it is still the same. Sometimes VLC media player can fix some of the AVIs, and play them on my harddisk. Any ideas? Thank you.
