Problem playing back Xvid avi files on PS3

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the correct section to post this in, but had a question maybe someone can help with. I'm in the process of putting some of my favorite TV shows on my laptop so that I can watch them on my PS3 through streaming. I've been using DVD Decryptor to rip the files from the DVDs, and Auto GK to encode to Xvid Avi. I've set the target file size on all to be about 175 mb. Yesterday I checked a few out, and they look and sound great on the laptop, but then when I check them out on the PS3, they play, but about a minute in or so, the sound is messed up and the picture freezes, and it's basically then unwatchable.

I am able to playback avi files I've downloaded (not sure if those are DivX or XviD) so the PS3 is obviously capable of playing some of these. I haven't done the most recent system update on the PS3 so don't know if that is a factor or not. (I'd say the most recent update I did was maybe February, if that makes any difference).

Has anybody ran into this problem before? If so, is there an easy way to fix this, rather than have to re-rip and encode to Divx or wmv? Any suggestions would really be appreciated! Thanks!
