Hi There,
I?m converting some of my DVDs into MPG2 using Any DVD and Roxio 10 (Convert Video option. Rip DVD to hard drive and convert from there ). These are to be stored on a FreeAgent Ext. HDD that I have connected to my PS3. I?m very happy with the results of the video, audio, and the time taken to convert.

My problem is:
Some of these MPG2s are over 4Gb. The HDD is Fat32, so I can?t get them on there.

I?ve tried to split the MPG2s with TMPGEnc, and the audio disappears.

I?ve tried demuxing (again with TMPEnc) and trying several different audio formats (wav,mp3) ? no joy.

I?ve tried to output the individual chapters of the movie (again with Roxio) and again no audio.

I?ve tried a lengthy and convoluted process using MeGui, and I ended up with a BIGGER file size ? and no audio.

I?ve tried was VOB2MPG ? great video, no audio.

I?ve tried TSmuxer ? same result ? both splits played great on PC but not on PS3. The output on this occasion was m2ts. I have even downloaded a sneaky mkv file, which was 6Gb. Plays great on the PC, even when split. On the PS3, no audio! If I go to ?Information? on that file when on the PS3, the audio codec field is blank.
I followed your mkv for PS3 tutorial for this, and made sure that the audio was 4.1

I?ve tried Vegas Pro, and that gave me video and audio, but the video was compromised

Here?s the audio details, as shown in MediaInfo. There's three types shown here: Good Roxio (Roxio that works, ie under 4Gb) Bad Roxio (Doesn't work, ie split) and Good TV (Stuff recorded with PlayTV onto PS3 HDD that works):

Thanks,

You can take a ripped title into mpeg2cut2 (select the range of VOB files from 1 through 9) and save clips.

OK Thanks, will give it a go. I still can't explain why I have the same issue with Roxio (MPEG2) and TXMuxer (MKV)

I forgot to mention, I ran the converted MKV file through Pandasoft, which did all sorts of rendering, demuxing and muxing, and it still wouldn't recognize audio. So there's nothing you can suggest for any MKV files? I tried mpeg2cut2 this morning on the m2ts files generated by TXmuxer from the mkv, and it wouldn't recognize it.

thanks again for your help.

This is a strange problem and relates mostly with your PS3 and what it will/will not
play. Have you attempted to post in a forum more suited to the subject? You may be
more likely to reach somebody conversant with these issues.

Sorted this finally. For mpg's, mpg2cut2 did the trick. For MKV's I used MKV2VOB.

Thanks everyone.
