Basically, whenever I use a video converter that uses directshow (I have tried this with magic video converter and Super video converter) to convert any sort of video file to a file that has an AAC sound stream, the output file will have no audio stream.
The ffdshow audio icon does not show up in the tray when converting, but haali media splitter and the ffdshow video icon do, which makes me think that for some reason the converter does not like using ffsdshow for audio.
Normally I would think this was a problem with the converter, but I have tried 2 different converters using directshow to convert and I have the same problem with both. I have also tried a variety of different containers and types of audio streams, and whenever I convert to a file with AAC audio I get this problem.
The strange thing is, I can play AAC audio just fine, I can play both the input file I am trying to convert and the output file with no audio stream, and if I try to convert something to just an AAC sound file, the output works fine.
I could just convert the video and audio separately and then use another program to mux them, but it is a big waste of time and I'd rather find a proper solution to this.
It seems to be a problem with ffdshow tryouts that stops the converters from using it.
