Just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows Media Player crashes whenever I try to play matroska and some other high definitionavi files. Need to add that it used to play these files flawlessly when I was on Vista. I have the latest version of K-Lite codecsPack installed on my system.
Any suggestions?
I have Win7, K-Lite and none of my videos ever crash. (I use onboard video too). What happens when you use Windows Media Player Classic (ie as supplied by K-Lite) ?. I don't use that bloated Windows Media Player only use Classic and VLC player.
Media Player Classic and VLC Media Player play all the videos fine. However I prefer WMP because it supports DFX plugin which brings an unbelievable enhanced sound.
Anyway the issue begun right after I upgraded to Win 7 and I recently found out that it crashes with some mpg as well.
Anymore ideas?
Well from your post it would seem that WMP is the culprit. As i don't use WMP myself all i can suggest is to do some googling and await any of the regulars that might use WMP...
I have two Win7 machines but as i say, i don't use WMP so can't comment on it. I have no problems with any media files though, whether it's AVI, MKV, olde worlde AVI or 480p, 720p and i even have one or two 1080p files.
