Hey Guys

Relative noob at burning dvds. Here is my problem in brief

- Trying to backup dvd-9s to 5s using a velocity micro (VMdrive) external USB netbook DVD drive. It is brand new.
- I am burning onto sony 1-16x DVD-R discs.
- Using newest version of dvd-cloner VI.
- I am burning at 1x speed and reducing size to 4300 so it won't burn all the way on the outer rim of the dvd.
- Disc will play perfectly without a problem on my sony standalone (~4yrs old) until about half way through the film and then stop. Once it stops, it goes right back to the main menu.
- Disc will play perfectly in my computer dvd drive without any problems all the way through.
- Standalone dvd will play regular bought dvds just fine and older backups that I made about a year ago fine. Those dvds are memorex and verbatim.

Any help is really appreciated

Can you only burn at 1x - try 8x or 4x.

Have tried burning at 4x, 8x and full speed but am burning at 1x because have read elsewhere that the slower you burn, the less likely you are to have errors.

Have the same problem regardless of speed.

So this is a common problem and can only be attributable to poor media quality? What if the verbatims have the same problem?

Sorry, I don't mean to second guess your advice, I really appreciate it. I'm just really apprehensive to go out and buy another stack of blank dvds which end up being useless if the problem persists.

It's just a process of elimination.
The standalone.
The disks - Verbatim.
The burning program - ImgBurn.
The transcoder - DVD shrink.
The ripper - DVDFab HD Decrypter.
If the problem persists using Verbatim disks (don't use the new 'Value Series') - you still have good disks.
