Hello,
Up until a month ago, I was able to burn dual layer DVDs on my laptop without any problems. I would use an external DVD burner since the internal DVD drive on my laptop is broken. Then I was no longer able to burn dual layer DVDs , and I would receive generic errors when trying to do so. I thought that my external DVD burner had broken, so I replaced it with another external burner of the same model (HP DVD557s) and was still unable to burn dual layer DVDs. Then I bought another external burner from a different manufacturer (Gearhead) and received the same results: I can burn single layer DVDs but not dual layer DVDs.
So what do I do now? Could this be caused by some sort of a driver issue or "behind the scenes" update that can be easily corrected, if only I knew how to do so?
I have a Toshiba Qosmio F45-AV411 that has a Vista 32 bit OS.
Thanks for the help.
Walter

Thanks. Following your suggestion, I tried ImgBurn, and it failed to burn a dual layer DVD. I saved the log file and also wrote down the error messages that appeared when the DVD failed to burn. What do you need for me to do?
Thanks for helping.

Try Ripping TheMovie To An ISO File (RIP TO IMAGE)
Instesd of Haveing Imgburn Build, Just Write the Iso With It.
Also Try Burning at a Lower Speed If You Aren't Using Verbs.
I Still Have To Say It, Make Sure ANYDVD is Disabled and Exited.
If That Fails Try Using DVDFab To Rip To An ISO and Have IMGBURN Burn The MDS File It Creates foe DL Disc

I closed AnyDVD entirely, tried burning a DVD again and received the same error at 50% completion.
Next I successfully created an ISO and tried burning it to DVD. I received an error about data zone capacity, and then hit continue. ImgBurn failed to burn the ISO file to DVD.
I am using ImgBurn.

Perhaps the data zone capacity is what the issue is,the source file is over 8.2gb in size in your log.Ok so when i do movies i have to check it's properties because the source file size compared to the amount of disc space required to hold that data usually needs to be much larger,in other words the data may not fit as there's not enough disc space to hold it?normally when that happens the burn program will tell you there's not enough disc space unless you have overburn ticked, apart from that i can't help much
Edit:That address thing is weird it's saying the block doesn't exist yet the disc is only 50% used is it the layer break in wrong position or a corrupted disc

The same error occurs with different discs and different movies.

So what can I do now? The problem doesn't seem to be related to the DVDs or the external DVD drive. Do you think it is a hardware problem, software problem, or a driver problem?
The drivers appear to be up to date; I checked for driver updates with the control panel.

Reinstall your chip set and USB drivers, if it still is bad the lens on the unit is burnt out enough to not be able to make DL dvds anymore.
Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.
