hey guys!
i've got dvdfab 6.0.2.2 and an iso file that's 7,9gb in size.
mounting the iso file starts a movie (with dvd menu). if i look at the folder structure of the iso i can see that it is a not in video-dvd format (no video ts and audio ts folder).
i don't have a dual layer burner so i'd like to split the iso into 2 dvd5 discs. so i tried dvdfab's function of splitting but the prog won't even load the iso file.
is this because the iso does not have the typical dvd folder structure? if so, how can i convert this 7,9gb iso file into a dvdfab-compatible file, so that i can split it in dvdfab and burn onto 2 dvd5 discs?
thx for your help,
vercettti.
p.s. i hope my explanations are understandable! :-)

hey varnull!
i use daemon tools for mounting.
by the way the d-tools virtual drive does not appear in the drive-selection list in dvdfab.
what i can do with the iso in order for dvdfab to open and split it?
thx,
vercettti.

Not sure.. I have an xp machine in for repair.. I will investigate.
OK system had alcohol120 and nero installed.. no daemon tools (which I won't install because I don't like it)
Mounting the image with alcohol120 caused windows to ask what to do.. and rip/convert with dvdfab was an option.. but it's expired so only rip option exists.
Exactly the same happens with the nero image drive.. asks what to do with image just the same as inserting a real disk :)
FYI.. installed dvdfab6 beta.. and it crashes after kind of auto detecting the disk. It has the option to load an iso file.. but as it crashes it's useless.. what a load of crap.. back to my linux where everything works.

hey!
thx for all your trying and efforts!
i think i know what the "problem" is:
i'm pretty sure this dual-layer dvd was never intended for a dvd standalone player. it seems like it's an iso of one of those dvds you get along a computer magazine. when i mount the iso then i'm asked if i want to autoplay the disc. no dvd player software needed. it just starts in its own window.
or another example: it's seems to be like most of the tutorial videos (for example photoshop or whatever program). i don't think these kind of training/tutorial videos are meant to play on standalone dvd players. they're more like an application i guess.
hope you know what i'm trying to explain...
thx,
vercetti.

I guess I know what you mean.. have you tried one of the freeware dvd2avi rippers.. or even an oldie like dvd shrink ??
You should be able to explore the mounted iso like any other data or whatever disk.. sounds odd that there appears to be nothing yet it plays as it should. Could be a powerpoint disk or some oddity I guess.
These types of disks are usually meant to be played in whatever is to hand.. it should be a normal dvd disk if it's a training/educational thing.. maybe whoever ripped it was an idiot?

what should i do with the rippers? i don't catch your thought, help me out! :-)
i do have full access to all the files/folders of the iso whenever i mount it.
5 minutes later:
ok, now we've got the answer. it really does only work on pcs and macs as you can see on the bottom left of the picture (it's german and says "für PC and Mac"):
Cover Image
also, looking into the details of the product it says that you need either pc or mac to play the dvd.
so even though you're probably right that these kind of training dvds should work in any dvd player, this version will not.
so the question arises, is it possible to somehow make this playable in anything else than a pc or mac? i guess not, right?
thx,
vercetti.

It should be possible to rip the video off it... what does the actual file structure on the disk look like?
I had a bit of a look around.. there is one which is 6.4 gigs.. all the rest are either just the app at 200 or so mb's or a 4.44gig iso. We should be able to remaster this and get rid of the mac or windoze versions and then burn it... it's an application disk basically.. with the guide and tutorials running as part of the app.

first of all let me say thanx for all your help so far (even if we don't get this thing converted). it's always great to come across someone who's so helpful...
ok, to spare words i'm gonna upload a pic of the iso structure. it's all in german though, so i translated and added info on what each of the folders contain (roughly).
Folder/File Structure
what's next?! :-)

ok.. it's built to open in a web browser.. I guess the sample mpegs and avi's are the files to practise the editing on.. samples.. and the flv video will run from the info.txt and start.html will be called by autorun.txt
That will open in firefox or a plain text editor.. and from there you can work out which flv file goes with which menu entry.
I would rip the flv files and the samples by copying them.. put the sample avi's to one side and investigate the flv files. You should be able to convert them to avi or another format.. mpeg2 is easy to author dvd's from .. IVC (internet video converter) will convert them to avi and is freeware. Then you need a dvd authoring software.. dvd flick ? and add each avi in order with a menu??
That's how I would attack making a standard dvd from the tutorial sections.. of just the video. If they are interactive there will be a problem.. but it should be possible to just author up a normal disk with menu of the tutorial sections...
I found a 6.6gig download of this thing out there in German. Need to clear some drive space and use some time to download and have a look. (yeah.. I'm a genius )
Investigate those files.. you can run the tutorials and see which flv relates to which menu entry.(or read it straight from the info.txt or start.html file).. a proper html/xml editor like geany or bluefish will highlight the hyperlinks as pointers.
It is possible... and it's fun to learn this stuff on the fly XD

hey,
i figured you'd be coming up with the idea of ripping and converting the videos. and then creating a dvd. sounds like the only way i guess. and shouldn't be a problem either. i'll come back to your "tutorial" :-) once i'm ready!
but i'm just gonna stick with the iso image for now. it'll be fine to watch it on the pc as you'll want to try the steps the trainer goes thru anyway.
please don't make the effort of downloading the files. you've been a great help, let's call it a day! :-)
thx again,
greetz,
vercetti.
