I have over 500gb of iso files stored on my hard drive right now. These are simply backups of my movie collection, however, they are taking up too much space on my drive and I need to reclaim it. I spent a lot of time backing up my children's movies that they continually get hold of and scratch up. I want to be able to take like 20 or more iso files at a time and compress them enough to be able to put them on a single dvd (just for backup purposes so I can restore them and burn them at any time I need). I don't need to be able to watch them from the backup dvd or anything like that...I just want to be able to restore them at full file size on the computer at any point and reburn them if needed. If anyone knows of what software I would need to compress these that much or convert them to a different type of file, etc...I would appreciate any info

Thanks,
Kenya

This is another one of those "if your time is worth nothing. . . . "

With the cost of external HDD storage, it would be cheaper to buy an external drive to keep them on.

For argument's sake, lets say that each .iso isn't even a full DVD (3GB). 20 x 3GB /4.7GB You are looking for a 12-15:1 compression ratio with no loss.

It's typically can't be done with video, unless all the videos are of polar bears in an arctic blizzard.

Just for grins and giggles, I did a WinRar compression of a 4.7GB video .iso using "best compression using WinRAR.

The compression took 1 hour and I got less than 2:1 compression.

I have over 4TB of videos, which I back up to LTO-3 tape.

Disk storage is getting cheaper and I will probably switch to it in the near future.
