I have been burning movies for years now. When I had XP, it was simple - had Nero 6 installed, so I either used dvdshrink or dvdfab to rip the disc and then used dvdshrink to copy my movie to a blank disc. For some reason, my dvd burner only liked staples-brand blank dvds.
Then I got a new laptop and it was vista 32. It took some time but I finally got Nero 6 installed and even though the program wouldn't open, and dvdshrink wouldn't rip the disc, I used dvdfab to rip the disc, and dvdshrink/nero to burn it. It worked fine. (Oh, and I started using Sony dvds, which I am still using today)
Now, that laptop was stolen so I bought a new one which is a vista 64...I lost the nero 6 disc and can not find it. I foolishly went out and paid $100 to buy nero 9, never bothering to read anything about it - only now finding out it is crap. I've been using every method of movie-burning out there and so far the only thing that has *almost* worked is dvdfab/imgburn. It gets pixelated and choppy during some parts and makes the movie un-watchable. I've wasted about 10 blank dvds trying everything I've read about on these forums, and can not find anything that works flawlessly. My previous methods were so simple and did not require much computer knowledge. Is there any one that can give me some advice? My laptop has a built-in burner, but I also have an external burner as well - which I have not tried to use with my new laptop.
I am already planning on changing the write speed and I'll try it tonight when I get home from work, but I don't have my hopes up. I'm getting really tired of wasting blank discs, so I was hoping someone with Vista 64 would tell me exactly what they use. I swear I've read every thread and tried everything (involving dvdshrink, nero, dvdfab and imgburn). The only thing I haven't tried is this one thread said to manually burn the movie with nero 9 after I have it saved to my hard drive...but I don't know how to do that. I'm nero-illiterate.
Sorry, I don't even use Vista 32. Far as Nero, I don't use Nero either but when I did, I used Nero Burning Rom>DVD-Video, chose next and dragged or opened (seem to recall double clicking to see thing's) the file on the right side into the left and burned, selected burn at top and Disc at once on next page with burn speed. That was a few version's back though, someone correct me if I'm wrong. You could alway's do a custom install with Nero keeping only the part's you want and keep the bloat down that way. Edit: try 1/2 the rated speed of the media, that's a good rule of thumb for burning except for Taiyo Yuden, like's at least 8x.
