I have been making back-ups of my DVD's as well as downloaded movies. I use DVDneXTCopy Ultimate. Some movies that are downloaded are PAL format. I have a Toshiba HD-DVD player that will not play PAL format. I just bought a Toshiba Region-Free DVD player so that I could play these. When I play these in the new player, the DVD's are choppy with different colored squares that jump around on the TV screen, Some DVD's play without sound & Some freeze up after a few minutes of play. When I play these DVD's in my computer, they play fine. When I play original DVD's in the new player, there are no problems.

Several questions?:

1. Is it my media? - I use Memorex DVD-R
2. Is it my burn speed? - It is set to 8X
3. Is it the new player? - I blew it out with a air duster.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is it always the PAL disks that give the problem or does it show up when an NTSC disk is burned.
If only the PAL disk is a problem then it would eliminate the media and burner as the source.

It does it with some of NTSC DVD's as well, however some bckups work fine. It seems that I have more issues with the PAL, like no sound or a long delay in the DVD player's ability to read the disk. It will not do it with originals.

If it does it with both types (PAL and NTSC) I would incline towards a media problem.
In this order what you could do is:

Change to 'Verbatim' brand disks and burn at half the maximum on the package.
Burn the disks using ImgBurn.
Check for a firmware update on the burner.(you can let ImgBurn check for you Tools > Drive > Check for firmware updates).
Good luck.
