Hi all! Please bare with me as I'm a new member. I've been visiting these forums for several years now but finally decided to register as I stumbled across this movie which I can't seem to backup. I can't get AnyDVD because my trial expired over a year ago. I've used DVDFab and it's always been helpful as long as I get the latest release; however, I'm still not having any luck with both the 6.2.20 beta version nor the 6.2.18 version. I also tried DVD Magic Copier and that too didn't help. For some reason, DVDFab can't read this movie and DVD Magic burns it but neither my BD player or computers can't read it. Please advise.

Yes...AnyDVD 6.6.0.9 in background. Backed up to HDD. Movie only at 100% (edited out end credits, extra audio tracks, etc) using Shrink. Burned with Nero and got perfect DVD5 disc. AnyDVD is tops!!!
I hope your method works. I have AnyDVD 6609, try that with Decrypter and it is no go. So now ripping it with Anydvd directly to HDD and then see if VobBlanker can remove some of the junk then burn it with Shrink. Crossing fingers!

To clarify for everyone, DVDFab 6.2.2.0 will not get past the initial scan. Some people were saying it wouldn't read the disc, but when that has happened to me in the past there were errors. In this case Fab tries to run the initial scan and then just simply stops and at the top of it only says, "Please insert DVD disc or choose DVD folder/image file" I did have DVDFab 6.2.1.8 and it did get past the initial scan but then said I needed to upgrade to a newer version, so i downloaded the Beta dated 01/07/10. I'm sure Fengtao and the boys are working on an update to fix this badboy so we can all backup our originals.

DW, yes, as you mentioned, I 6.2.20 cannot get passed the initial screen. I can't get 6.2.18 to get through it as well (not sure how you got it done). I also get those "Please insert a disc..." msg. How did you get 6.2.18 to work with this?

I'm sorry, I was wrong. I had the 6.2.16 version installed. I couldn't rip the full movie. All it did was get past the initial scan then said I had to upgrade DVDFab to a newer version or purchase that version to proceed with ripping. So I downloaded 6.2.20 version and installed it. Now every movie i put in won't go past the initial scan. I just uninstalled 6.2.20. Now I have downloaded and installed 6.2.18 and i'm gonna try and backup my copy of Zombieland I just bought before I watch it. I will then try Bruce Willis' Surrogates again. When I had 6.2.20 installed it would not get Zombieland past the initial scan either. Now it is ripping Zombieland. I also put the DVD in my DVD-Rom drive because I have found out some movies won't even play in a DVD Burner on a PC. I have both a player and a burner installed in my PC lettered D: and E:, respectively.

DVDFab 6.2.18 ripped Zombieland to HDD just fine. I also got it to go past the initial scan after I selected the Correct region code 1 before it scanned it. DVDFab is ripping Surrogates, Full Movie as i'm typing this. I am ripping it from my DVD-Rom (player)D: drive. Maybe the issue is that It won't scan/rip if the disc is in a DVD Burner Drive? Maybe you have to select the correct DVD region code every time before initial scan? I did not click the box that says "Do not show this again" at the bottom of the window. Or maybe yet it is the 6.2.20 Beta version? I don't know as of yet. Surrogates just 100% successfully ripped to the HDD. It must have been the Sony protection on the disc that detecting the DVD burner drive and wouldn't allow it to do the initial scan? I will use FixVTS and DVDShrink to process and burn my backup after i wake up to over a FOOT of snow here in northern NC!! There is already 8 inches on the ground and snowing heavily outside right now!! BOOOOGITY BOOOGITY BOOOOGITY!!! Let's Go Sledding Boys!!! (A little DW Fan humor) I'm 37 and I can't ever remember getting 2 separate snow accumulations here in NC that were over 8 inches in a 4 week period...

FYI...Shrink does [b]not[b]burn. Shrink will analyze, remove unwanted junk and compress if needed. Shrink doesn't burn to a disc itsself but opens a chosen burning program ie: Nero, Imgburn for that process

Sorry!, clicked out. After selectin "track" the list of 99 tracks will appear and the one being played will have a checkmark. Use Handbrake to select the same track to copy. With Surrogates it is track 43. Goodluck!

Sorry, newbie. Half my post got lost. Using Handbrake on Macpro. Play the DVD using standard DVD Player and after main feature starts right click on the screen. Select track and the list of 99 tracks for Surrogates will appear. The one checked is the correct track. After scanning the DVD select the same track (With Surrogates track 43) and proceed to copy. Mine played through all the way through the credits without skips or shutter. Good Luck!

For all those guys out there that have the Message: Please Inser the Disc.....all you need to do is pull out the DVD from the tray and insert it again......second time usually works like a champ.
Now if you live in a diff Country other that USA your right Title Angle could be diff. Not worry: To know the right Title Angle wherever you are, just insert the original DVD Movie into your DVD Player and when the main movie is playing, just hit the key botton Display on your remote control and the right title angle will appear on your TV set like 43 (99)......meanning that the title angle 43 is now playing out of 99 fake-ones.
TRY:
http://72.55.191.8/download/DVDFab6220Beta.exe
Let DVDFab run the DVD Twice.....Ignore all Errors....
On Shrink: Open the Movie file by clicking the + sing at Unreference Material folder.
Good Luck !

This did not work for me. Still came up "Please insert disc" every time and I reinserted the disc at least a dozen times. I am in the U.S. and am using DVDFab 6.2.2.0 Beta Free version. I've tried DVDShrink, DVDFab Versions 3, 4, 5 and 6, and RipIt4Me. Getting ready to try MagicDVD Copier.

Magic DVD Copier was a complete success! It took about 30 mins. to rip. It is a trial version and you only get 5 uses of it before the trial expires so make them count. Set the target destination to the ISO Image option if you plan on burning it to dvd. The other options didn't work out so well. Good luck and happy ripping.

I am sorry.....yesterday I was in a hurry....
RipIt4me may be will do the job done, but it will take forever...
Anyway, insertting the disc twice, usally work a 50% of the times using any Program.....or letting the program to Analize the DVD 2 times too, also help's.
Is another thing I would like to add to you:
Most of the People that try so hard to make a Back up using only one PC is that.....you need to understand that all PC's or Burners, have a diff Optical drives and they are Unique (Pain in the a**): they are so arrogant to recognize Originals DVD's to be analize or Blank DVD's (+-R's, +-RW's) to be burn. And a Person that have +2 PC's or diff burners on their towers will have the adventage of get them back up's more easy.
I do not believe on "Bad Press DVD's" as a Problem to back up DVD's.....I already back up +4,000 Movies and I never been in contact with non of the so call "Bad Press DVD".
So the Solution is simple: Try a diff PC or Diff Burner !
I hope this may help.
Good Luck and Happy Burn's.

I've got another solution. Been very busy with VobBlanker and found out that an older version will load and process the Retail R2 DVD. I am talking about v2.0.1.0. When done, run the result through the newest version v2.1.3.0 and all will be OK.
If you have any questions, email me at spolleke@yahoo.com.
