So, I've ripped my fair share of DVD-9s down to DVD-5s over the years and I've always wondered: why are some retail DVDs padded with useless information?\

For example, I'm currently ripping my way through the retail copies of seasons 1 - 12 of E.R. Almost every disc has anywhere between 200 - 500 megs of duplicate, useless information in the video_ts.vob. Of course, I blank this out with VobBlanker, but why do they do that? Does it have to do with the layering and the way the DVD-9s are pressed? Most of these discs clock in at over 7 gigs even without the useless info.

Just something I've always wondered about. :)

It's a way to make you think your getting your moneys worth I suppose ? Let's face it Other Than some really Cool Special Effects shot's or Seriously Funny Outtakes on some Commercial/retail Dvd Movies Mot of the Material Include on Dvd's That are alternately lest as Bonus features Or Special features are The Video Equivalent of Filler Songs on a Cd/ Album -record ? Something to Fill out The Recording so You don't Feel loke your being Ripped off for Buying An Album to Get the Three Hit songd that are the Only good ones anyway !!! - Personal I would much rather have either an alternate Version of the Movie { like Widescreen & fullscreen } on the same Disc or The Theatrical & Extended /Directors Cut of The same Film ! It can't Cost Them much more to make the disc this way ? It used To cost The Studios About $1.00 U.S . to make a DVd Movie and They Sell for What ? $ 15.00-25.00 Dollars ? Though they do occasionally make movies/dvd's like I was talking about it isn't the norm unfortunately !!!! Anyways That's MHO anyways CiaO !!!
