Its been a while....

I am looking to stream video to my Sony TV from my Windows 7 PC via Windows Media Player. MP3s work fine as do jpeg pictures. Sony say that the TV will play AVCHD and MPEG 2-PS files and will transcode some others such as AVI...not tried anything but low quality MPEG2 files.

So, I want to rip and convert my DVDs to the highest HD quality I can and would appreciate advice on what the latest/best solution to this is please. I have no concerns over file size and I guess I am looking to rip and convert the DVD to something like AVI or mpeg 2. And this is where I am struggling to find a program that does that quickly or easily. I have DVDshrink and have ripped DVD to usual .VOB files. But what now. There are a large number of choices out there which is throwing me a tad. I have DVD FAb Platinum but it seems to be picky what files it will convert...

Any help appreciated
