I was using Final Burner today, trying to burn a video DVD, and after selecting the file I wanted, it said "transcoding file" or something similar over a progress bar, and the bar filled up. It was showing a preview of the movie I wanted to burn. I think it went through the movie twice, and when I click next, it just restarts the preview, and it does the same thing!

I also looked at my C drive, and everytime I clicked on it, it showed less and less hard disk space. Finally, I shut off finalburner, and the space stopped disappearing. What was it doing? I was getting really frustrated with this program.

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, it's my first time here.

I'm not familiar with this program, but if you need a simple burning program, then use ImgBurn.
It's arguably the best - it's free and is constantly updated.

So it can burn a DVD movie which I will be able to view on a standard DVD player with a TV? OR will it just burn a data disc? I'm confused a little by the program, and I'm not sure what it means by an "image."

image is another name for iso file it's basically a container,is there a particular reason for you to not read the imgburn guide, every program has one or a link to a guide usually listed under help ,in imgburn's case it's in the menu selection to the left

Is this a simple burning program or is it converting files from one format to DVD format then burning?
An example would be converting downloaded AVI files.

as it goes through it twice I would guess it's transcoding and making an iso (or directory) for burning, but then has no burning engine associated with it.. that would explain the missing drive space every time.. probably in "my documents" somewhere.. these junky things usually like to work in the hidden "application data" folder.

somebody suggest ways to find the files it has made.. iso's or vobs

I'm pretty sure I now understand why it was using up space. It first transcodes the file from AVI to DVD compatible format, and then it writes it.

However, I have found a program for writing DVDs and it works perfectly. Thing is called DVD Flick. I have made several DVDs with it, and it's easy to use and runs fine.
