My epson r300 recently died and I would like to upgrade to a all in one with dvd printing. I am not sure which one to get that has good printing speed, excellent printing for photos and dvds, and not a total ink hog like my epson. Also recommendations on where to find ink would be great.

Thanks

Your choices are limited.

If you are in the US, Epson is your only choice.

If you are in Europe, Canon is an alternative.

". . . and not a total ink hog like my epson"

I am running an (2) RX595 and a R280 with CISS in all 3.

Install a CISS or use refillable cartridges. it won't solve the problem of ink usage, but it will lower the price.

I have the Epson Artisan 810 and love it. It is less of an ink hog than earlier Epson printers.

There are also these. Hewlett Packard Photosmart D5460 Printer and HP Photosmart D7560. Not all in ones but still look nice.

The one in your link is a nice one. The 2 printers, that I use for my work, are HPs.

The big drawback is the price of ink for HP. Epson uses more ink, but with the price of the HP cartridges, it may be a wash.

I would love to have both the Epson and Hp, for a few months, just to see which is the better.

I would have to say that printing photographs, with the Epson, would be superior, based on a comparison with the HPs that I do have, and the Epson Artisan 810.

You complain about "ink hogs" like Epson yet you are considering HP, which has the HIGHEST TCO and print price per media?????

Good luck.

That's why I'm asking. I haven't owned a Hp in years and am wondering if they have gotten any better. Plus I can get a full set of inks with the large black for $13 on ebay.

Yeah, and the $13.00 sets are all without chips. You have to move the chip from cart to cart when you change them.

I do not have any direct experience with the "new" HP printers. I will never buy another HP ink jet printer as long as I live.

That doesn't bother me, plus there are refillable cartridges, cis systems, and this system that refills original cartridges. I ended up getting the first printer I posted and will get one of the above systems for it later.

Thanks for all the help:)
