NEED HELP WITH UPC PHONE LINE

Hi guys
Can anyone tell me if I can use phone sockets in my house with other phones not wireless,from a upc modem ?
I was thinking that if you split TEL 1 on the back of the modem plug in downstairs phone in one side of splitter and plug a lead in the other side and then in to the wall socket in that room I will get a single to the other sockets in the house.

Can anyone help??
