Hi,
I have 2 PC and I need to buy a router to have internet on both of them. I am looking for something good and I don't mind if it's wireless or wired, I just want to have fast internet on both of my PCs. I am using now a SMC router and the connection is so slow and everytime I have to reset the router or unplug the cable, but it's never fast as if 1 computer connected directly to the cable. Is there any suggestions? if the problem is the SMC what do u recommend guys to buy and for what options in a router I should look first?
thx and merry christmas

Years ago, I started out with an SMC router. I have to say I was not impressed with it.
I then switched to a Motorola Router, but it became outdated, so I upgraded.
I most recently use a Netgear Wireless N router. I really like it, and am pleased with it so far. You can have wireless or hard-wired.
I also updated all my NIC's on the pc's too

The reason I'm asking is because the smc i have doesn't give me the speed of the internet that i can get without router. It's slowing down my connection on my 2 pcs.
So, what is the difference between N or G router, what options do I have to look for before bying in case i din't find the one you mentioned?
thanx

The only difference basically is speed.
N- is just the latest technology. A Wireless g may be fine for you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11 - explains the speeds etc for each protocol.
Depends I guess also on your ISP, what speed you have also.
I went with N as its the latest, and all my computers are almost up too date. I have 3 running usually all the time
Plus I have the wii, PS3, DSi, etc that all use the internet.
My old router was just not keeping up and it was bogging us down.
I have the Netgear wndr3500, I am happy with it, although if I step up again, I will stay with netgear, just get a newer model. I needed to have wireless plus hard-wired.

I've used so many routers. As long as you have a G router you'll be fine. I thought my N router sucked!

some says G is better than N some says the opposite. I was reading a topic in a forum and they said that N was not good at the beginning. Did you buy your N router when it was just new technology?
Also do you think there is difference on the speed between wireless or wired? or just price?
I have a 10mbps speed internet and would like to have it all on my 2 pcs.
