Problem with CD Drive not opening CD

Computer settings are set for computer to "ask me" whether to open CD or not; however, when I put a CD in the CD drive, it doesnt "ask me" if I want to open it or not. So, I went to "Computer" and left-clicked on the CD drive and asked it to Open. Nothing happens, i.e., CD will not play yet, if I choose "Eject" on the drop down box, it ejects the CD so, the computer is recognizing the drive but it will not Open" the CD? Any help out there would be appreciated.
