After reading through many guides on how to play backup dvds on a ps2 I'm getting very confused.

People say to mod your ps2 console (I have the fat one as you call it) How can I mod my ps2 without buying anything like a modchip or whatever?

Another thing is I watched this youtube video, I didn't know what mcboot is, so I did what they told me. I used my flash drive then added the files to it, after that I put it on my ps2 then nothing happen. The usb wasn't recognized.

Let me tell you what I have atm

-Laptop/computer that burns cds/dvds
-Memory Card 8gb
-Flash Drive 4gb
-Cd-r
-DVD+R

thats about it.

Can someone help me on how to play my backups on my ps2?

I'm afraid that I have to tell you that there is absolutely no way to modify your PS2 console without shelling out a little cash, no matter what model you're using.

The easiest and least intrusive way to mod your console is to purchase a program called "Swap Magic 3.8". Your first instinct is going to be to go look it up on the internet and download it, and burn it to a DVD-+R, and have that be the end of it. Afraid it isn't that simple.
Imprinted on each and every legitimate PS2 disc is a bit of code that basically says "Hey, I'm a legit disc, you can trust me." This code is on a part of the disc that normal CD and DVD writers (such as the one in your computer) cannot touch. When the PS2 encounters a disc that has an ISO on it, it will check to see if that code is there; if it is, no problem. But your burned DVD wouldn't have that bit of code on it. So you'd be taken to the typical red screen that says "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation2 format disc."

Swap Magic, however, actually is a legitimate PS2 program, and has the code written into it that allows it to be played on a PS2. You would put the disc into your PS2 like any other game, and it would launch the program. When you get to the menu screen (It will say "Normal", "Special", "Cheats", etc.) You'll use the slide tool (since you have the fat PS2) to unlock the disc drive without the PS2 realising it's been unlocked, open it up with your hands, swap out the Swap Magic disc for the DVD+-R with the game you want to play on it, close the disc tray manually, slip the slide tool into the PS2 and slide it back into position to lock it.

Video on how to make your own slide card, to save a buck or two: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/632349/ho...ps2_slide_card/

Another option is to buy a modchip, but those should generally be avoided by those who are inexperienced with circuitry and welding, because if you fuse the wrong wires, you could very well lose a lot more than your warranty.

You can purchase Swap Magic 3.8 from Amazon.com, that's what I did. I live in Germany and it arrived at my APO in just over 2 weeks after I ordered it.

It comes with 2 discs, one for DVD format games and another for CD format games. (If the bottom of the disc is blue/purple, then it's a CD format game and should be burned to a CD-R)

And hey, just so you know, the PS2 (unlike the Wii) is unable to play backups from a USB. So that USB port in the back is pretty useless as far as software modding.

I hope this helped.

Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it.
