I have a flip top modded Version 9 Ps2. I have 3 original PS1 games and also a gameshark lite. My ps2 and it's backups play 100%. I cannot get the Ps1 or gameshark lite to work . ABout 90% of the time,it gives me a "disc read error". the other 10%, loads but stays at the black screen.

I've cleaned my laser and checked the discs for numerous scratches...what else can I do?

If your getting a disc read error on PS1 Original games then I would say its your laser.

Sometimes the CD part of the laser will go first, or vice-versa

Do you have a mod chip also?
I ask because sometimes you need to force it into PS1 mode.
