Hi everyone,
I am desperate to play a backup of one my favorite games that is very rare and I can't find it anywhere. =[

I have a PS2 slim (75001) and ARMAX 3.30 which includes Max Media Player. So I put cogswap.elf on a pendrive, load up the media player and cogswap successfully loads. I burned a Maxell DVD-R with Imgburn (1x speed) of the .iso and placed a higher TOC game (I have RE: Outbreak, Sonic Mega Collection Plus, Devil May Cry 1 and 2) and swaped it by blocking the slim sensors. I press X and the DVD-R spins and spins and nothing happens.

I'm going to try with different media and a different .iso and a different program... can somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Okay, I just tried using cdloader.elf from a pendrive by booting it from Max Media Player. Everything went smooth, I swapped the discs, but it said "Error when reading the disc" when I pressed X with my DVD-R inside.

My lens is clean and reads dvds fine, so the lens isn't the problem.
My method of swapping discs isn't the problem.

I think it might be because I'm booting cogswap/cdloader from a pendrive rather than a cd, or I somehow burned the disc wrong... please help, anyone have any ideas?

Don't listen to him, cogswap works on Slim's

How to use Cogswap

-boot up Cogswap
-place a PS2 disc in the tray
-wait til it displays the disc type
-press O button for CD or X button for DVD
-wait til it says "cogswap"
-then use a slide card (fat ps2) or sensor mod (Slim ps2) to swap out the game disc for your backup disc.
-press X to play the disc

The only thing I ever noticed though with using Cogswap is not all PS2 discs worked.
I have had good luck using GTA San Andreas as my swap disc.

Thanks a lot for replying!
I decided to burn another .iso, but this time with Alcohol 120%
The .iso is Silent Hill 2 (I bought it in stores years ago, but it got a big scratch and would not play). My D:\ says "Silent_2_Greatest_Hits" and that it has a filesize of 3.61GB. I used a few high TOC discs (RE: Outbreak, Devil May Cry, Sonic, Killzone, FFX which have 4.37GB I think), swapped it, and the same thing happened. When I put my Maxell DVD-R in and press X at "Use Cogswap", no matter how long I wait, nothing happens.

When I use CDLoader, it says "Error: Invalid disc"...
Maybe it's a problem with the Maxell DVD-R, since I found a similar topic here:
http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61744
http://forum.mininova.org/lofiversion/index.php?t234985298.html

So I'm thinking if my PC can read it but the PS2 can't, is it because the PS2 doesn't like Maxell DVD-Rs? Should I try Verbatim, burn everything again, and see if it works? Please help...

I also found something here: http://versatile1.wordpress.com/2009/06/...-dvd-decrypter/
"If the game does not work, then there are two things that need to be done.

1) Use a different disc. Maxell DVDs are notorious for not being great DVDs. The PS2 laser is very picky as to what it can and cannot read. Many people suggest in getting Tao Yuden DVD?s but those are sometimes pricey. You can get by with better brands like Verbatim, Sony, and TDK to name a few."

Yep you may want to try a different media.

I also find I use Alcohol 120 only for CD or PS1 games, and I use DVD Decrypter or Imgburn for DVD games.

Burn it at 4x and you should be good.

On my V14 I have used Verbatim, but mostly I use Sony DVD-R and have never not had a game work yet and they last long time.

Are you following this guide to play backups. If so, then there is a way to copy the cdloader.elf or cogswap.elf to memory card.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/337567

Also seeing you have armax with media player you can install fmcb 1.8 and then use ESR.ELF to play backups.
Much easier and better compatibility.

http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/

You need to read the user guide and the armax evo installation guide.

Once done you only need to patch ISO images with esr disc patcher, which is found at the psx scene forums
under the ESR official forum title.

I installed FMCB 1.8 and applied the patch to the .iso and burned it. When I ran ESR, it said "Unknown media in drive" and when I pressed "Run CDVD" it went to a black screen... (figures...)

So now I'm 99.9% sure that the reason that my backup games wouldn't work in cogswap, CDloader, and ESR is because Maxell DVD-Rs plain fail on the PS2. The reason I got Maxell was because my convenience store didn't have any Verbatim/Sony. =/

I'll be buying some Verbatim and Sony DVD-Rs in the future to try ESR again. Anyway, thanks for guiding me in the right direction! (I would have probably given up on PS2 backups!)

Yes maybe good to try different media.

I also forgot to tell you that the noobie package puts that ESR gui in there.

I prefer just to use the ESR r9b Direct dvdv elf.

You can use uLe to copy that elf to your memory card and try it instead or launch it from usb drive.
