I have been reading some threads on this, and I understand that this version of PS2 has had problems with bad lasers after modding, and I've seen some fixes noted.

What would be the best modchip to use on this model, taking laser fixes into account so that I may not necessarily need to replace the laser later? I've read some people saying never to deal with clones, but I have also read some recommendations on the Modbo 4.0 chip, which is a clone.

Also, where would be the best place to purchase a modchip (or even swap magic discs if anyone thinks that those are worthwhile)? I read the sticky with the affiliate link for some modchip site, but the link is no longer valid.
