NTSC PS1 games on PAL PS2?

I'm trying to play a backup of Xenogears (American NTSC) on my modded PAL PS2, but I'm having problems. Firstly, the picture is stuck halfway up the screen; turning on "PS1 Screen Fix" in the Matrix Infinity boot menu just makes it worse. Secondly, I get no audio during any of the FMVs.

Are there usually problems with running NTSC PS1 games on a PAL console? My PS2 runs NTSC PS2 games with no problems at all.

Try and find a different ISO perhaps is about all I can suggest.

I think the ISO is fine; it runs without any problems in ePSXe, so I'm not sure whether it's a hardware issue or not. I've burned it twice now and the same problems appear; I managed to patch the ISO to fix the screen, but I still don't have audio in the FMVs.

It could be hardware. I really don't know

Did you try pressing circle when you first boot with the PS1 game in to force it to play.
