PS3/PS2 Memory Card Adapter questions

i know the adapter allows the copy of ps1 and ps2 saves to transfer to the ps3 .
my question is does it work the other way around can i take my ps2 save games off my ps3 virtual memory card and add them to a playstation 2 memory card..

i ask cause i am in the middle of tons of ps2 games on my ps3 but i hate to wait ten minutes between swaping the disc to play my copied ps2 games on my ps3 so i am buying a premodded ps2 but dont want to lose my saves any help is appreciated thanks
