I've decided to use Swap Magic instead of hard-modding my PS2, but have read that running cd/dvd-r discs will burn out your lens very quickly. I looked around and found out about being able to load games from an IDE HDD using HDLoader, but I'm still concerned about the lens burning out from reading HDLoader from a dvd-r.

So I'm wondering, how often does the PS2 have to read from that disc, and just how much wear and tear does it put on the lens, compared to just running a dvd-r straight through Swap magic?

Just make a freeMCboot memory card with HDloader on it...you won't need disks at all that way.
