Trouble getting progressive scan with PS2 and monitor

I have my PS2 slim outputting through component to a component to HDMI converter, then I have an HDMI cable going from the converter to my 1080p monitor. I get picture, but I can only get it in 480i it seems. When I load up Shadow of the Colossus and select progressive scan the screen goes black.

I tried it with my PS3 and setup the display settings to be component video, and I set it in 1080p. It looked crisp, so I don't know why it doesn't work with the PS2.

Does anyone know why I can't get progressive scan?
