Hi Users,

This is a common question among all new owners of PS2, I hope. What is the success rate of mod chip soldering?

I have heard multiple times that if the board circuit is ruined during modding then Sony would not give any support because the warranty would have got voided the moment u open up the unit.

So what I want to know is what is the probability that the modding operation would be successful. Is it 5/10, is it 9.9/10, or is it 8/10? A rough estimate would give us new owners an understanding of the amount of risk we may be taking by going for modding our new units .

Thank you all in advance for sharing your experience with us newbies.

The success rates mainly relies on the one who is soldering.

If you have no skills, no knowledge or what-so-ever on soldering then you shouldn't jump into it.

Go find a broken VCR and just practice till your comfortable.

I definitely was not planning to do it myself.

What I am talking about is going into those shady lanes and find out those illegal PS2 modders who never advertise their names. There are few such places in Delhi(India) where people have rumored that PS2 can be modded.

If I go to some such people, then what is the probability that the modding would be successful. Assume that the guy has some experience of doing the modding for a charge. What I have heard is that none of these shady people give any guarantee that the PS2 will come out alive from the operation table. That is why I want to know if an experienced person attempts a modding, then what is the success rate generally of that operation.

Thanks for your replies in advance.
