new member here trying to uncover some reviews of these online mod chip stores. I searched the forum and only one closed or really old (2004) thread popped up about this site. Not to be confused with modchip.com, mod-chip.com might be another site to be weary about ordering from. Sine 2004, the company has changed "management" it seems but the company seems to maintain it's shadiness.
so it's been two weeks since i've ordered, and i've started to send some emails out to their customer service which is based on a ticket system that's outsourced to a different site that manages those script emails to them. pretty flimsy.
did some research and at www.resellerratings.com they've got a profile but a very suspicious one. Their reviews are either 5 stars / checks from people with noticeable english errors as if they were foreign... And the other reviews come from extremely angry people who throw a text-tantrum in perfect english, that is usually followed by a response from mod-chip (like an ebay review) in the same type of broken English that gives them rave reviews! HM! that's just weird. Maybe they are creating profiles on there and leaving themselves these great reviews to offset their actual customer reviews. There are even implications from the thread from 2004 that the company was doing this to afterdawn as well:

The rave reviews always seem to suggest the same thing over and over again, even in verbatim terms phrases such as "I recommend you to choose Fedex shipping - it's really fast," so they can make more money of your order, "Not the fault of mod.chip.com" which usually postludes shipping length or a product review, and finally "European holiday" in which the customer forgives mod-chip for not answering emails or shipping products that day. It seems to mod-chip that Europe's got a lot of holidays!
The invoice, shipment, AND order confirmation email all came within the same minute to my inbox as if the emails were automated and didn't actually follow the action stated in the email subject. Also, the phone number they gave me in their emails (which cannot be found anywhere on their site) is (555) 555-0123. HAHA, sketchtastic! the email given for response was dummyemail@magentocommerce.com. On resellerratings.com, someone about a week ago called them out on this and the reply from mod-chip was that it has been fixed and they "could have just found it on the website." Can't find it anywhere on there.
As far as the management change goes, this is something I found on one of their replies to a review on resellerratings. They said that the new mgmt has taken over and that all the blame should be on the ostermann (the prior managing team). "Our company Pegasus Ltd. is a new owner of domain www.mod-chip.com since August 2008 and we are not liable for duties of previous owner - Ostermann GmbH. Any complaints direct to them, please."
Their replies are very rude and always tries to divert the blame back to the customer, like "We don't know why you are complaining. You have received your money back long time ago!"
Anyways, thought I'd bring some of this more recent research and experience about this company to the forum again for informative purposes. Still gonna wait on my product, i'll keep you guys posted...
oh, and mod-chip seems to be fully aware of their presence on resellerratings.com
they even brag about it in their terms and conditions portion of their website. if anyone has any more insight to this site, let us know.
