Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to add a USB digital terrestrial dongle to pick up the Irish tv stations? Also, can it be integrated in to the EPG?
I understand it can be done with a DM 8000.

I have never heard of a 'DTT Dongle'?
Please, please, please use the search box at top right of site before asking a question that has already been answered.

Yes Fintanni. I have a dm800s HD. I have heard the dm8000, which can have more than one tuner, can pick up digital terrestrial broadcasts and show on an integrated programme guide.
My question is, if I added something like this http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320498773576&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_5602wt_905 (an external digital terrestrial tuner with USB connection) would I be able to do the same?
If this worked, which I'm beginning to doubt, you could get the UK sat channels and the Irish channels.

Saorsat is the satellite version of the Irish DTT service & is due to go on air early 2011, this makes things easier for satellite box users,...although it will be on a diffrent satellite 9deg east & sky being on 28.2deg east.

http://www.saortv.com/shop/index.php have boxes that do both the DTT & Satellite version of the Irish digital TV service, so your picking up everything except a picture ? some TV's have intergrated digital tuners but they need to be the mpeg4 standard unlike the mpeg2 uk freeview/freesat ready tv's.

not that I can see Nelly, not in Ire anyways
@ Lenny, yeah picking the above up alright, thats without an aerial plugged in mind, checked the signal level on CH54, its very very low, so was thinking a powered aerial in the back may do the trick, the TV is a LG6100 Scarlet, bought down here about a year n bit, nearly sure its MPEG4, could be wrong though, it has a hybrid tuner for analogue TV and DVB-T, when a chan comes on, its flashs MPEG on the screen, but I am thinking its more to do with signal.
This is the one

a yes,..do tell,...also before anyone goes out & buys one of these dongles take note that the normal DTT USB recievers available for ?10 - ?15 won't pickup the irish DTT channels as these are for the british market where mpeg2 compression is used unlike Ireland who use mpeg4. see here for more info

That is not correct.
The decoding of the signal is done in software ,not hardware so a standard DVB-T usb tuner will do the job.
The DM800 can decode Mpeg 4 signals ,most HD content is Mpeg4.
To get it working on the DM800 ,you need the Dream Elite Black Hole image which contains drivers for a USB DTT stick .
You install the drivers, and can configure it in the system setup.
Obviously you need a DTT signal to connect into the USB tuner so you will need a UHF aerial that covers the required spectrum for your area.

That's great news. Do the channels appear along with the regular sat EPG?

Yes ,they can be put in the same bouquets as satellite channels .
The Dream Elite image has drivers for ~20 specific USB tuner models, mostly Hauppage,Avermedia,Asus so make sure you buy one that is compatible.

Sorry Lenny not sure if it will work on an image that old.
I am using Dream Elite BH Phoenix ,76c,which has an addon server for downloading the necessary drivers .Its limited to about 20 different USB tuners .

Yeah,..know about 8a8f8.com but all the different nationalities chipping in with advise in broken english can be very confusing, anyway I found a working image (below)for bootloader #72,..works a treat & has the USB TV stick option,..just flashed it using IE & the box IP.

I aggre, I aggre,..I even got my first 800 through yang nearly 1.5yrs ago,...just takes a bit of time re-reading some posts,..some posters start their posts by appearing to say that something does not work but by the end of the post they are actually saying the opposite,..just a language problem I guess.

Just reading above: Situation seems to be if you can't beat them confuse them. Anyone know if the kryptview A750 and A780 are still redundant in Ireland?
