What does it says when you press download on the UFL, does it go into a boot mode screen? This asks you to manually assign a port.

Have you tried assigning port 1 on your pc to the null modem cable and then try flashing it again.
If the port says its been used just select it either way. You can change it back after the flash.

Its same problem that i had if you know someone that has an older PC it will flash no problem thats what i did .It must be something with the com ports and Eurovox as i dont have same problem with other boxes.

not sure what you mean scouser, when i go into device manager com1 is showing in the port settings, if i change it to com2 or 3 then when i hit dl it shows com2 or 3 in the box but still doesn't detect
my pc is few years old but it has flashed eurovox boxes previously no problem

If you leave it at port 1 in device manager are you still having problems. Or is it me been a fool and totally misinterpreting what you said. I expect its the latter :)
Or as Leeds said try another pc.

Try deleting the UFL you have and download a new one. It may be corrupt. Is it just one box you are trying or is it the same on others?

lol, before you jump out the window :) If its doing the same thing on all three boxes it a pc problem. The same cable has definitely worked before and you do not have any other cables lying around that could have got put into the mix :)

i've a rake of cables and have tried them all, to no avail, yeah same problem on all 3
thing is though that i had the same problem on another pc, it wouldn't have something to do with my broadband connection would it ?

No the flashing process is between your pc and the box.

Usually if its a bad flash that will work, this is not the case with your three. See if you can borrow another pc. Also before you flash them make sure they are not clones.

just one last thought, i have a zyxel modem installed via usb connection, could this be causing problems with the com1 port, i used to have the pc connected via ethernet so i'm thinking that maybe it's just since i installed the modem that it's not flashing tho i can't be sure, could this be the problem ?

hi guys, right, i had same problem with the ex1000sl not been detected, my solution was to :-
1. shut down the pc and the cable box
2. change the link cabel from com 1 to com 2 on pc
3. reboot pc
4. power-up cable box
5. run ufl
6. unplug power to cablebox
7. re-connect power to cable box
the rest was clockwork
hope this helps
