hello ,sorry im hoping someone can help me, my brother send me this box from spain and a satelite dish its called a dreambox 500 s and he said i can use it to let the kids watch there channels and there sports just connect the box to a internet cable and to the dish he send me ,he also told me this site would prob help me ,so thats why im here ,i want to know can i use my sky dish instead of getting a much bigger one put up and do i need to get a card as there is no card in the dm 500 s .i have read up a bit on this and was wondering as well that he said the box will work straight out of the box ,but i think it will need software am i right ohh and this has notting to do with the cs okay thanks
i guess you should have a word with your brother. i would expect that if he sent it to you he has already programmed it himself. also if this is not about cs then why would you need a network cable connected to it. the network cable is only required if you re doing cs. otherwise your options are to buy a sky subscription and use a sky box. the dreambox will give you all FTA channels such as BBC,UTV,C4 etc... but its a bit of a waste of a dreambox just using it for that alone. anyway your call. as i say have a word with your brother
thanks for your reply,he said that i would recieve disney channels ,eurosport,and football games,and movies ,but some of these channels would be in different langages,but he said they will not be sky or ntl ,he bought it from a friend of his .so does anyone know what hes on about ?sorry i don t know much about this subject?will these channels actually work??and how will i put the satelite in the right position?
Sorry to squash your optimism. But if your brother hasn't programmed the box for your use, and has no idea what his friend has done in programming the box, how in the name of heavens above are we supposed to know how to help
you mention disney channels and movies and that they could be in a foreign languge (well then your brother is correct that it is not sky or ntl channels) the fact you need an internet cable (which is called an ethernet cable)probably means that either the box is setup to connect to an online server or that the box has a c line in it for cardsharing ,also i assume if your brother gave you a dish with it that the channels are coming from a foreign satellite so your sky dish wont do. you need to get a bit more info from your brother on what method the box uses to open the channels ,and what satellite the channels are on ,also you will need some one to fit the dish (if you want to keep the sky channels you will then have 2 dishes) so you need to check your local council rules on dishes as they may not allow 2.
Ask your brother what satellite the dish needs to be pointed at.
Buy a "sat finder" probably in maplins or ebay.
You may be able to use the sky dish, it really depends on what satellite you need to use.
Dont do anything to the box until you get this info from your brother, the box is probably already set up, now it's just a matter of getting the dish pointed at the right satellite.
Post on here what satellite you need to point to and we'll help you the rest of the way.
