everthing has been checked out but sound still distorted
the box has been chipped a while ago could this have anything to do with it?

chipped? there is no chip unless you are talking about the rom in the SV, the SV uses firmware to decode instead of a card

thanks hooter for the info about firmware
done as indicated perfect
the starview 3 box with the sound distorted
when i said chipped it was taken away and something done to
enable itself to descramble itself
whatever was done lasted for a few months then the sound distorted
it,s only 9mths old
