Forget about the rar file - I was mistaken.

You should have downloaded a file called:

TheboxSuperUSB2_v2.03.20090923.BIN

If you haven't go back to the link I posted and press 'download now'.

Some help please ... Been trying to get the box up and running, but scanning for channels has been unsuccessful.

Downloaded the .bin file.
Started the box with USB in before switching on.
After selecting english, went to USB, selected the .bin file, hit OK.
Box went through its cycle, then rebooted.
Selected english again, then selected autoscan and service provider (NTL) as I?m in the UK
Scan completes, but no channels found.

When the cable is plugged directly into the TV, I receive the standard channels (BBC1/2, 4, Five, etc) and 1 or 2 extras. Is this a pretty good indication the line is active? This is my main concern why the channels are not scanning on the box.

You need to scan with other providers.

I don't have a SV5 but have a fiddle: the other providers are there to be chosen. Does it side scroll?

When you say you have them FTA channels have you a FTA aerial is that the cable you are trying to connect to, or do you have a cable coming from the green box outside the house ??

Just tried the other providers again ... still nothing ... Actually been over each provider about 6 times.

Is receiving the normal channels when the cable is directly connect to the TV a good indication the line is active?

It is not a FTA cable.

Can?t see a green box outside, but the cable does run into the basement area of the flat. Where the cable runs into the flat, it goes into the providers box (2 ports ? TV and FM). From the box it exist from the TV port and that is the cable I?m plugging into the SV5.

Bypassing the provider box and cable now straight through ... Still no luck.

Always been with N** ... Obviously now changed their name.

Api version not mentioned under system information. Only have -

Model ID: C 531
S/W Version: 2.03
Boot Version: b-21
Date: Sep 23 2009

Feeling like I'm out of luck with this one.

Baulko:

Do you have a proper cable company box (ie a Vir**n M**ia box)?

Do you have a subscription with a cable provider?

Not being funny m8 as its easily done. Are you plugging the cable into the right socket at the back of the box should be the roughly middle top at the back of the box. The Socket to the side is a tv loop through and scanning with the cable pugged into it would fail to pick up anything.

any ideas or shall i just buy a new tv/monitor?
I have mine connected to the PC with a scart to Svideo converter. You will need also need a remote that connects to the settop box otherwise you won't be able to set up the media centre.

Once you have it up and running it is infinately better then the SV PVR

This box along with all other versions apart from the BOX PVR are single tuners so u can only record the channel its on

Hi Guys, total newbie here.. just got a starview 5 box and was wondering what do I need so that I can record one cable channel whilst watching another.

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer. I have a dual analogue PCI card with 2 SV's attached. I use the media centre to record one channel while watching another. It's a pain but what can you do

come on you hammers

this sounds basic BUT after scanning the channels you should go to menu insert "1570" and a hidden menu will appear, from which you turn on "code key" then exit wait a minute the all should be working

Has anyone else heard about this, a techie mate has told me that all cable boxes ie starview, eurovox etc will be rendered useless by the end of the year, as the cable companies have a way to block/scramble the signal. Hope there is no truth in this. Also can anyone tell me why I lose EPG at 10 or 11pm every night

the EPG has been doing this on most of the firmware releases even on the SV4, secondly use the search function above and search for Nagra 3, thirdly rumours like this are everyday and to be honest nothing new

Had my SV 5 for a month now reasonably happy, although I still have to download the EPG regularly, just a question on recording and playback.
I have been using an 8 meg stick for occasional recording.
Problem is if I stop eg half way through a movie to resume next day, the only way is to use the 16X fast forward to resume were I left off, the buttons on remote to go forward in segments don't work, nor do lots more on the remote. Sometimes when using Fast forward, the whole thing will freeze, and I will have to reboot, any ideas, I am using a decent memory stick.
Apart from that big improvement on my 3 year old box!
