V+ Box - does it need cable feed to watch saved content?

Hi there

A quick question. I have a V+ box with quite a bit of stored content that I need to watch. I was hoping to take the box round to my boyfriends place so we could watch some of the prgrams together. The only thing is that he doesn't have cable, so what I was wondering is whether i could watch the recorded content without any cable input. Or does it need the input in order to operate the V+ functionality?
