I have movies as avi files and wish to burn them using Nero 6 to cd's to watch as VCD format.

I know Nero suppose to covert and burn by itself, but so far I have wasted a ton of disks that seem to burn ok but never play on the dvd player ( panasonic 18 mths old).

Any help towards this would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Use TMPGEnc to encode to MPEG1 (VCD) and use Nero to burn to CD. I use it all the time, great prog.

Info available on the site see
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/tmpgenc.cfm
also here
http://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

check out the guides on this site for further info

Hope this helps

Cheers

thanks for the help, will give it a shot...

yes my dvd player plays vcds usually, and mp3 are ok when I burnt them and played them. just the AVI files from the net that seem to not work.

its me again, and I am going crazy... after following the instructions to the T, I managed to covert the AVI file to mpg using TMPGEnc.

next step is to burn it on cd. Nero gave me a warning message just like the one I got when I was trying to burn AVI file initially. the error says the file is not a recognisable video format, and Nero will encode it before burning.

the resulting cd will not play on pc or dvd.

is it a Nero problem, or did I do something wrong?

It must be Nero, try downloading another burning software and then you'll know.

I've heard Alcohol 120% is a good tool, I haven't tried it myself yet, you can get it from the software section and try it.

Hope you get a result!

How about burning a VCD from an AVI file using a Mac. Is it possible?
