Picture going out of screen when played on Stand alone players

I tried converting an avi file to DVD based from the guide but everytime I try to play it on my stand alone player, the picture goes out of the screen. I can only see half of the existing subtitles and the picture gets cut off..Is there an option I need to change in TMPGend to get past this? Or is this unchangable because of the current dimensions of the video I have...
