that straw trick is getting pretty popular.
But heres the thing. even if you DO get the exploit to install on the PS2, it has supposedly fixed so that it wont work anymore anyway. So you dont want to waste your money on swap magic or something only to find out that it wont work.
Since you got it to work with the lid open you could try this....
Get a CD based ps2 game. Put it in the ps2 and turn it on. The SECOND you see the screen that says "Playstation2" yank the disk out and drop the exploit cd in its place. Since the ps2 screen means that it has accepted your disk swapping it just after may catch it before it loads the TOC of the disk in there, and boot the exploit instead.
This is just a theory and there may only be a split second window to get it in on time, but its worth a shot for you.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. However, I simply cannot use my USB stick unless I can get the exploit disk to install. As for a CD-based game, I guess I will have to borrow one, since I don't own one.

you have to make your TITLE.DB file, with a ps1 game, to do this I used the directions on this page http://www.lookatthemonkeys.com/html/ps2tut.html It is exact. Once you make your Title.db file with the id from the ps1 game, place it into the
"EXPLOIT INSTALLER" folder you unpacked to the desktop. It will ask you to overwrite the existing file, click yes.
Burn the contents of the ENTIRE Exploit Installer folder to a cd.
You will have the following files on the ROOT of the CD
FILES - A folder, leave it as a folder and do not touch the contents inside
CDVD.IRX
EXPINST.ELF
SYSTEM.CNF
TITLE.DB
burn these exactly as is with Nero or cdgen, I used Nero. data cd.
then inserted my swap magic, swaped for MC exploit disc you just made, then it will run and if succesful, I think it say installation compete or something to that effect. after that you have it on your memory card, now you can use the PS1 disc as a boot, I'm not sure if its suppose to but any disc I put in came up to launchelf. I'm not familar with the memory card exploit, I only did it to learn how.. I guess if you have a memory card specially for that then it is cool.

I´ve run the exploit disk and everything went ok, but when i´m trying to boot from my MC with the trigger disk it just start the PSX game ignoring what´s in the MC.
do i have to erase all the content of the MC? is there any way to save this saved games to a HD?
How can i check if the titledb i´ve made it´s OK?
On the other hand, i boot with a DVD region X and i´m not able to run any DVD backups, are there any tricks/boot methods to run DVD backups or i have to trash the DVD region X for a newer boot disk?
Thanks.

I´ve been trying in 2 different chubby PS2, one modded (mine)and the other unmodded (friend). I even burned the cd twice, verified the system.cnf and titledb, but it didn´t work. The exploit install perfectly on the MC but after that nothing happens, just the trigger disk boots with the game. Any other hint?

the exploit will not work with ALL ps1 games. I used 3 games before I found on that works. There is a chance the one you are using is not going to work right as a trigger disk. Try a few different ones.
What I did was added all my PS1 games to the title.db file. Then just went through the disks till I found the one that booted the exploit. Also this way you only need to install the exploit one time, and only need to burn one exploit cd.
There is also a title.db file on the net somewhere with 300 games on it already. I couldnt find it when I made the disk, otherwise I would have just included that and then no one would have needed to make their own title.db.

its actually wrote in a text file but it contains the Id's for 600 games, I'm sure that you could use those to make a title.db file

Thank you for a very good AIO-Bootdisk, Stinky, but I have a little problem, I have an old Datel Memorycard that requires a bootdisk every time you start the PS2, is there by any chance some way to put the "drivers" in the AIO-bootdisk?
Then my PS2 would be perfect! :)
Sorry for my bad english

I dont know about that. You can try making an image file of the driver disk and emailing it to me. I can then take a look at what the disk is actually doing and see if it can be done. I suspect that it wont be as easy as you think.

No, it's probably not easy, the easy way is to buy a new MC, but then we don't have a problem to solve. ;)
I'll send you an image, take a look at it if you want to, it's no hurry and I'm not gonna be dissapointed if you don't find any solution, I'll just keep on googling the net after a solution.
Sorry for my bad english

its still worth looking at, there may be an easy fix.
Since you can only buy sony mc now it wont be an issue for new users.

I just took a look at the cd, and it boots right into some sort of system in the same setup that my aio cd is in. So it wont be easy or very possible to combine the 2. I would need to go into the actual program on the cd of yours and tell it when it was done to then load up launchelf. That is MUCH more work than I am willing to put in.
You may want to look around for an out of work programmer, or someone with a LOT of extra time that wants to re-write code for this.
Sorry I couldnt help more.
