Burning MPEG-2 To DVD

Hi guys,
I have a mpeg 2 file i converted w/ tmpgenc from an avi, the quality is perfect, but when i burned it to a DVD it doesn't start as a regular dvd. It shows the folder (VIDEO_TS) and the file itself, then I have to choose the file and click play.
Question:
Why does the movie not just start playing?
Do i need an ifo file for the mpeg 2 that tmpgenc created from the avi file?
if so...
Where and how do i get the app?

Howdy j_holmes,
You have one more conversion to go -
You got your AVI files to MPEG-2, you now need to run the MPEG-2 files through TMPGEnc DVD Author to get them to VOB files, THEN you can burn to disc. If you want to have the movie open straight away, then you can run it through Recode2 (Remake a DVD Mode) and take just the "Title 1" section to work with, continue to burn to disc and you'll be all set. A DVD that will play on most standalones because you used Nero to burn and, by default, you have it as a Booktype DVD-ROM which is more compatible than say, DVD-R OR a DVD+R disc.
Now I have one question for you . . . . Did you really need to post that question here instead of - say, the Advanced or even the Newbie Forum ?

I just ran the mpeg2 file through, and it worked great.
Yes i should of posted this in either of the mentioned, its just that i looked and at that time neither seemed suitable for the question.
I'll keep it in mind for next time.

Next time you're doing something along that order, try my favorite, vso's DivxDVD. It's a great app and cannot be beat for the price - it's also a one step process to boot -
Let me know how it works for you ~

Thanks again Pete,
I'll be sure to check that app out, at times I use nero's vision express. This works good to, I just wish the menu creater could be a little better looking.
What are you thoughts on Nero vision express ?
Here's another question for you:
I ran a movie through TMPGEnc to get in to the above stated (mpeg2), but for some reason the movie has no audio and the whole movie lags (i think thats why i cant hear audio), it plays for a sec and lags for a sec.
Any reason you can think of for that happening, or as how to fix it?

Sounds like you entered something wrong - hard to tell
Try running the whole thing through DivxDVD and see how you do.
dvd Santa is a one-step transcoder also BUT I think it does a lousy job - MO - can't see wasting $$$$ when a free proggy works so well ~

If you find VSO does the job, great, however, it will only allow one encoded video per dvdr.
DVDSanta is garbage. Unless your source is a perfectly encoded divx AVI, with CBR audio, it'll mess it up.

VSO does not let you take multiple files, and create one DVD. It will only take one file at a time, and make a dvd from it.
You could use a different program to join multiple files, and then use VSO.

I tried that on 2 mpg's, and it didn't work.
I'm trying again with 2 avi's.
If it works, it's not supposed to ;) but is a nice "undocumented" feature.

It has worked for me and others here. I have done it with Mpeg4(DivX), Mpeg1, Mpeg2, and AVI files successfully everytime :-)

Yup, just tried it.
According to the official "read this" when installing VSO, it does only 1 file.
IIRC I tried this on an older version and it did not work, but 5.0.9 does :)
