I have a 700mb xvid video that is 1 hour long. Whenever I try to convert it to a DVD format in TMPGenc the file size blows up to about 6GB and the length of it doubles. It says it is 2 hours while it is encoding it. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better program to do this. When I convert smaller 200MB files the size also gets huge. What bitrate ect. should I have it at for the size to be smaller without losing to much quality.

Give winAVI a try. It's very good when converting from AVI to Mpeg2/DVD. Quick, too- you're not waiting hours like with TMPG.

the reason TMPGEnc is over estimating the length of the file is because your source avi's audio is compressed. the only kind of compressed audio that TMPGEnc can directly encode is AC3 but only if you install this plug in:. http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/AC3ACM.zip .

so if your sources audio is anything other than ac3(i.e mp3) then you'll have to convert the audio to .wav before encoding with TMPGEnc, this can be done with virtualdub:. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/dawnload.cfm?mirror=0&software_id=149

open file up in VirtualDub, then goto the audio menu and make sure 'full processing mode' is selected, then goto the file menu and select 'Save WAV..', give the output file a name and then let vdub do its job. now open TMPGEnc and load the video file as you normally would but for the audio load the .wav file that was created by vdub. now you'll get the correct file lengths in TMPGEnc.

i used to hate going to weddings, all the old dears would poke me and say "your next", they stopped saying it after i did it to them at funerals -Chopper Reid-
