No you don't need a flip top since you already have a flip top on your PS2 Slim. Just put the AR in and let it load to the main menu. After that you will see an option to check for new codes (select no, make it a lot faster) then when you are in the main menu do what you do to play PS1 Backups and swap the disc with your PS2 Import/ Backup, then press start and it will load. If you download the cog swap file and use that, go to the media player in the action replay and launch the cog swap file. This stops the disc so no damage is done to the console or the disc. Do what you do to play PS1 Back ups and swap the AR disc that has stopped spinning and put in the PS2 Import/ backup and pres [X] button. then the game will boot up and will start playing.

I am suprised that they don't have a AR with the USB Stick. Maybe Sony Caught on to what people where doing and told the makers of AR to stop selling the one with the USB stick? and I don't know why it would cost $90 dollars! mine only cost me $30 and that was from EB Games.

You don't need a flip top (I don't have one) just use the cog swap trick Check google for the instructions and you will be able to play backup and imports with any AR (not just the usb one) (you will need the USB one for your Slim line PS2 since it has no cogs in it, but you can use any AR on the older PS2s (the thick ones). I even think you can use a GameShark on the Thick PS2 in order to boot the CD/DVD backup/import. (GameShark is the same as the AR except different maker and no USB Stick for any on the release)

I think you can download AR max Evo off of limewire. But then you would need to find a way to boot that disc and you would have a usb stick unless it was hacked.

I don't beleive there is a way since the PS2's imbeded commands are to check the drive, then show the memory cards(if there is any) when you select the system browser. And there is no command to check the usb drive. And the only way to get the usb drive to be checked /used is to have a program that would tell the PS2 to check its USB Drives.

Making and Burning the Image File:

1) Open cdgenps2.exe

2) Open your folder with the mediaplayer files in it.

3) Open the folder ps2.

4) Select all the files in this folder and drag them into the cdgenps2 windows you opened earlier.

5) Find your divx/xvid/mp3/jpg file(s) and drag them into cdgenps2 window.

6) You should now have a list in this order:

CDGENPS2
LETTER.CHR
COPY2.CNF
IDIOMA.TXT
COPY.CNF
LICENSES.TXT
MCLOADER.ELF
MCUPLOAD.TXT
OGG.RAR
PS2MEDIA.RAR
SYSTEM.CNF
UNRAR.IRX
DivX/XviD/Mp3/Jpg file <---- HMMMMM

Does the media file have to be placed on the same disc or can it be left out, using this as a boot disc with swapping.

I have a messiah chip installed, along with an action reply max evo and what i want to do is not reburn a load of divx/xvid movies already on cd-r and DVD-R.

any suggestions on the best method for me?

Also anyone have a link for cdgenps2.exe v3?? I cant seem to find one from google... :/

On the topic of Action Replay Max, what is the difference between ARMAX and ARMAX EVO?... i bought ARMAX from a store without the pen and it comes with the MEDIA PLAYER, DVD REGION X etc... isn't the EVO edition just the same but with datel's stylish version of a pendrive?

I can get MCloader.elf, pukklink.elf, bootadv.elf and HDDF48.ELF (downloaded from www.exploitstation.com) to load through the media player - but i wanna be able to load cogswap.elf so i can load backups. Does cogswap need to be compiled(?) before it will load on ARMAX media player.

This is a great thread btw! - thanks to keebles etc.

also I have worked out my ps2reality issue. seems u CAN use this created file as a boot disk!

whoo hoo!

next step...EMULATION!

Is there no boundries to the ps2's power? mwa haahahahaha...

You don't need to compile the cogswap.elf if you are using the USB Drive, but I don't know anything about the memcard using the Cogswap.elf file. I got it to load some hacks such as the media player.

if you have a computer you can just rip the movies to your hard drive and then stream them over to the PS2 using the PS2 Reality Player PC program. I have tried to get a VCD to play just by putting it in the drive and haven't been able to get play it, But when etheir streamed over to the PS2 or ripped and burned to a disc with the files, it plays.

You need to do the cog swap trick when using the cogswap file or any swap trick with an unmodded PS2.
Steps
(1) take the face plate off the ps2's cd/dvd drive(check google for help
(2)close drive.
(3)load cogswap.elf.
(4)Shine a flash light at the bottom part of the drive and you will see a cog(a small/fat white gear).
(5)Slowly turn the cog using a small flat head screw driver by putting it in the gears slots on the side.
(6)Turn cog toward the left to unlock the disc and to open the door.
(7)Door should slowly open, keep doing this until you can slowly pull the drive out rest of the way.
(8)Put backup in drive and slowly push drive closed
(9)Turn cog slowly toward the right to lock the disc and to close the drive all the way.
(10)Press [X] to start
just make sure that the disc you copy is copied correctly. I use Nero to make direct copies and they work.

Kyle, i'd just buy AR MAX if that's what you can get - the EVO edition has a pendrive - but if you have (or buy) a FAT formatted pendrive to go with your AR MAX there will be no difference. AR MAX is well worth the money! (this is the one i'm talking about: http://us.codejunkies.com/shop/product.asp?c=US&cr=USD&cs=$&r=0&l...)

Keebles, i've been trying to get cogswap to load through my pendrive or cdr - and still all i get is a black screen. CDloader, however, will load off cdr only, but ps2media.elf will not. Can you use CDloader to load cd/dvd backups (i dont have swapmagic)?

Kyle, most pendrives are compatible with ARMAX and are FAT formatted already. If you plug your 512MB stick into your computer, open up the folder for it and select "properties" (by right-clicking), it will tell you the "File system", if it says FAT, 99% sure it'll work - even better than the mere 16MB they give you with the EVO edition. I use a 128MB pendrive, works perfectly for video, jpegs, games and mcloader. Cdrs burned with the included software will do the same.

ARMAX will not disappoint! ;-)

I think the version of ur ps2 may be relevant as I too have used a generic usb flash pen successfully.

Im not being funny or anything, but all this cogswap/swap trick stuff si such a pain in the ass. If I was you I would consider chipping ur ps2. The DMS4 is no solder
and is the one of choice, but many people are doing the old messiah chip (which is what I have) very cheaply. Ive had this for over 2 yrs now with absolutely no problems. Its far better in the long run...

If ur in uk then let me know and I will put u in touch with someone that can do the job for a good deal if ur not a dab hand at electronics. Otherwise a DIY job is easy, exept if u have a slim-line ps2, which is a bitch apparently...

Im not really into chiping things anymore. I had a real bad problem with a modchip I used on my xbox, The chip almost screwed up the system and was constaly fraging(Flashing Red and Green) and I had used the solderless adapter once I got rid of the chip, the Xbox ran perfect. Nore do I even try the soft mod on the Xbox since most games can detect the mod and fixes it, once that happens the system is only useful as a door stop(doesn't work anymore). I don't even try to mod anything since that basicly requires you to take apart the system and install a forien chip into it. it also costs money for the chip. If the chip is installed wrong, The system is broken. If the bios are flashed wrong, the system could die on you and never be able to play games again. The Swap Trick doesn't install a forien chip into your system and their is no bios that need to be flashed. Also you can't play certian games online with a modchip. Another thing, the swap trick is FREE. Finally, I suck at installing chips.

I live in the US and I also think Sony was able to get modchips to be called illegal. Which means If I bought one I probally would get away with it but I don't wan't to take that chance.

I know this is off topic but does anyone have the Web Browser for the PS2(the one from japan)? I have been looking all over the web and can't find a working link to it. I have tried every search engine and haven't found a working link. I have only found dead links that lead to no where! Or if some one can help me find an image of the UK Net Work Disc for the PS2 I would be greatful.

i agree with the chip thing i dont want to pull open my ps2 apart to install a chip and i dont know any places to get chips from i have a ps2 slimline and the cost $190 AU to get put in by pros.and if i can get the action replay with the gogswap trick will be easy because the slim already has a fliptop and i have already worked out a way to get the ps2 to think the lid is closed when its not and i can also play my vcds.

thanks for the ifo about the pen drive i think i will save up get a pendrive and AR max

keebles why do you want a browser for the ps2 dont you have to be connected through the computer anyway isnt that what a computer is for to search the web????
