i got a external hdd thats 120 gigs and have like hundreds of mp3's that i can play using ar max. But i also have ps2 games on my hdd too cuz i made 2 partitions . 1 for media (FAT) and 1 for games (FAT32). Sometimes ar max cant recognize my hdd when i try to listen to music using max media player but when i turn the hdd off and then on again it works.

I tried connecting a 20GB external hd/mp3 player to the usb port on my ps2 and loaded up ARMAX - the media player wouldn't recognise it, even after partitioning it FAT, still trying to work out what ARMAX sees as the difference between a hard drive and a pendrive if formatted the same.

Is USBExtreme worth the money then Chris?

I dont know why ar max wont recognize ur FAT formatted hd. Did you format it in windows? Because windows only allows no more than 4 gigs of memory in order to partition it to FAT. My FAT partition is only 4 gigs while the other 116 gigs is FAT32 for games.

I guess usb extreme is kinda worth the 30 bucks i spent on it since it saved me alot more by having new games i rented on my hdd instead of buyin them for 50+ each. But not all games are compatible tho you might wanna check the list online somewhere before you back up your games.

hmm i thought ar max already has a media player... but i think you can load up anything if you use max media creator. i gues you just have to try it out.

Chris, I used Partition Magic to partition 2GB into FAT format, the rest is FAT32 - still no luck though. The FAT partition is a "logical" drive though, rather than primary (which is the FAT32 share).

Kyle, this is DEFINITELY possible - ARMAX's own media player will play DivX and AVI files and the software that comes with it allows you to convert other movie file types to these so your ps2 will run them. A 600MB DivX would run off a usb stick (or mp3 player if compatible)

is there a limit to how big something is to be formated in fat
i heard something can only be formated in fat if it was under a certain size is that true
because i can get a 1gb mp3 player for $99 brand new on ebay and i want to know if it will be in fat so ar max will recognise

No, there isn't a limit on how big something can be formatted FAT. There's 3 main filing system for drives, NTFS, FAT32 and FAT - these have there benefits on different types of media. NTFS is favoured for your computers hard drive, FAT32 for mp3 players and FAT for pendrives.

Even if your mp3 player is FAT32, you can simply format it to FAT format using partitioning software - such as Partition Magic 8.0, or even windows own (found in "Computer Management"->Disk Management). As Chris was saying, you can use this software to put a "partition" between a FAT32 and a FAT part of the hard drive, allocating say 4GB to FAT and leaving the 6GB as FAT32 (these would show up as two different discs when you plug the mp3 player into your computer).

The FAT formatted section should be readable by ARMAX media player and so you can load your 600MB DivX from there.

I see no problem why you can't have 2 things or even three on the usb stick. I have the Cog Swap trick and Free HDLoader on it and both work with out any problems. I don't know about the USB MP3 player since I don't have a usb mp3 player (I use my Casio Palm to listen to music with a 1GB Flash Card in it(I also watch movies when on the go)since I have tried to use a couple of different USB Drives and haven't had any luck. The only one that works for me is the one that came with the AR.

With the Browser for the PS2, I would be able to browse the web, check Email, chat here, all with my PS2. The PS2 is a lot faster loading than having to wait for a computer to start up, and I would be able to do this in my bed room to instead of my basement which is cold(Thats when I use my xbox linux to go around my brother's setup to get on line, he blocks my internet(He doesn't know that I use my Xbox emergency linux to go around his setup and connect my pc to the internet).

I don't think you can run games off a usb HDD since that would require some sort of program to check the usb HDD and I know the AR Max won't read any othere usb sticks unless it is made by code junkies(the creator of AR MAX). I Have tried this on my PS2 and all of my Friends PS2s and none of them would work with another usb stick. I Think this is how they prevent you from putting games on usb sticks and playing them. Unless you have some hacked up version of the AR that boots and allows you to run games of a USB HDD or a USB Stick besides the one that came with, I don't think there is a way to get that kind of stuff to work.

With the PS2 Web Browser, I would also be able to trick the PS2 into Downloading Hacks directly to the Memorycard instead of having to connect my PS2 to my computer or burn a CDR to load them. That would make hacking alot easier.^_^

I know this is way off topic, but has anyone in the US checked their radio station 94.7 the zone. It use to be rock music, but know it is nothing but a bunch of older fart music! How rude of them to change the stations music. I use to listen GreenDay,Seether, and alot of other songs on their. Now all you hear is old fart music.

Kyle, I wouldn't buy an mp3 player for $119 if you only want to use it with ARMAX - you need to know what you're doing and persevere with it to get a partition FAT formatted - and there's no guarantees that it'll even work. You'd be cheaper getting a bigger capacity external hard drive and play around with that to get your ARMAX to read it.

Also, I don't know where you're getting AR MAX from, but $70 is a joke! - most places sell it for $25. See http://us.codejunkies.com/shop/product.asp?c=US&cr=USD&cs=$&r=0&l... for more detail.

Once you get ARMAX, see if your FAT-formatted pendrive works on it first before trying an mp3 player - p0rt_1337 has already said that ARMAX usb compatibility isn't the same for all ps2 versions.

Whoa there... yea i bought ar max at fred myers for 25 bucks. If ur down under then try consolesource.com . They have it for around 25- 30 bucks US. So dont spend like 200 bucks just to play mp3 and movies on ur ps2. its way easier to just buy a hella big/cheap external hdd like mine(120 gigs)and have hella movies and music on it.

i was thinking of getting hd but because i got the slim i would have to get external and get usb advance but nowere here supplys it and i would have to get it over sees thus costing me around $80
then the external case which is about $30 plus the hardrive costing me about $135 and all this totaled up cost $245
which is way out of my reach i was hoping to spend about $30-60

and also if i got a chip i could play some backups because that is something i cant do at the moment cause i only know were one place around here installes them for $190!!!!!

and i cant buy anything on the net accept certain things on ebay

ook since u dont wanna spend alot i suggest you get swap magic since thats the easiest way/cheap to play backups. I have a slim too and it works. Oh and i dont think you need to go get action replay installed since its a DVD rom disc that you buy to use cheats on games. Kinda like a game shark. And you cant use it to run backups.Theres a place that charges 190 bucks for that???

You can definitely play backups with AR MAX. Using the media player, you can load either cogswaploader.elf or cdloader.elf -> either of these will load your backups.

I have a version10 ps2, and cogswaploader.elf wont load directly through ARMAX, but i've installed the MC exploit using cdloader.elf as my backup loader - and that solves that problem.
