Hey there guys. I'm in the market for a mod chip for my PS2, but don't want to solder. Has anyone had any experiences with this chip, good or bad? Also, if I get it, do I have to purchase anything else to start playing burnt games, or is that just it. And if you guys have bought it, where is the best place to get it at the best price. I look forward to your answers. Thanks.

I'm pretty new to the whole modding thing but i bought the ezi pro because of the flash memory on it so you can save things in the long run its better to spend the extra 10 bucks now instead of switching disks. And as far as installation goes it was easy just taking apart the ps2 took the longest but i would recommend it to anyone I haven't had any problems PM if there's any questions or anything you would like to know..

I found the ezi pro very easy to install took only about 30 mins to get my ps2 chipped and running.
However, the diag card was crap cuz it started smoking. had a few probs with the eject part, but a really easy install overall. I would definately get this chip again.

What do you mean it started smoking? What was your solution with the eject problem?

Avoid the solderless chips. There's a high probability you will end up destoying your PS2 in the process. A lot of people end up soldering the chip in anyway. The DMS 4 EZI Pro is $30 more than it's solder cousins. Most mod sites charge $30+ for installation, so for about the same price, you can pay a pro to install a quality chip like the DMS 4 Pro SE, Matrix Infinity, or Crystal Chip 1.1.

5. Q. What modchip should I get?
A. Matrix Infinity (Green Dot), DMS 4 Pro SE, or the Crystal Chip 1.1. The DMS 4 Pro SE has a HD Loader built into the flash and all the feature's you'd expect from a quality modchip, I recommend the DMS 4 SE Pro, because it has a 2MB flash built into the chip, and it's only about $10 more than the DMS 4 SE Lite. If you're interested in playing games off a HD, take a look at the DMS 4 Pro SE.

The Matrix Infinity is the grandfather of auto boot modchips. It was the first modchip to auto boot backups/imports with no swapping/resetting. It's feature packed and simple to use. Matrix Chips are probably a little more durable than the other two, and extremely reliable. There are a lot of Matrix Infinity clones out there, make sure you order from one of the reputable installers listed in this thread.

The Crystal Chip 1.1 is the latest contender to graduate to the top flight chip category. It is feature packed, simple to use, and effective. The CC auto patches DNA ID's so you'd never need to bother with Windip, Winimage, or Disc ID Insertor. Definitely recommended if you play your backups online alot. To boot backups/imports the Crystal Chip requires the use of "hacked" firmware. It's simply the official firmware modified so the chip can boot backups and imports. Everyone who uses the CC uses the hacked firmware, so fear not. The only feature that the CC doesn't share with the other two chips is support for cheat devices like ARMAX or Game Shark.

I personally have a Matrix Infinity and it works great. I have no regrets as to getting a modchip over Swap Magic. Once you have a quality modchip, you'll never go back to disc swapping again. It cost's a little more in the short term, but think of all the time you'll save rebuilding, shrinking DVD-9 to DVD-5, patching PAL games to NTSC, and the like. If you haven't noticed, most people who have trouble getting games to boot are Swap Magic users. This isn't nearly as frequent a problem for people who have modchips. Just some food for thought.

Note: v.12-14 PS2's will need a laser fix like the neo fix. This is necessary to keep the laser from burning out.

From KC36330, a professional modder and member of AD:

If your modder didn't install a laser fix then most likely your laser is now on its way out. All V12-V14 PS2's require the laser fix, especially modded consoles. Even a new unmodded slimline PS2 can burn the laser out in as little as a few hours of game play.

26. Q. I'm in the market for a modchip or premodded console. What are some reputable sites I can order from?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/251223 In addition http://www.modchip.com and http://www.norcalmods.com are supposed to be reliable. http://www.Xmodds.com is another quality mod site. If you're interested in a premod or modchip, be sure to order from one of these high quality sites.

67. Q. I'm interested in a no solder modchip, are they any good and why I would I choose one over a solder chip?
A. The main reason would be to save money on installation, IF you are qualified to install it yourself, and of course there is no soldering involved. No soldering well your home free then, right?
Not: http://www.dms3.com/dms4ezi/downloads/Installation_Manual/DMS4_EZ...
The DMS 4 EZI Pro and EZI lite are the only solderless chips I'm aware of for the PS2 right now. They're around $30 more than their solder cousins and have all the same features. If you can handle the installation you'll save a grand total of $5 or so. Wow, what a deal. For about the same cost, you can have a pro do it. If your serious about a GOOD modchip and have $100 or so to throw down on a Matrix Infinity or DMS 4, pay a pro to do it and save yourself some time and aggravation. There are people who have solderless chips and love them, the ultimate decision lies with you. If you have any doubts about the installation process, DO NOT attempt to install a no solder chip. There are forums littered with failed attempts at installation of solderless chips and graveyards of useless PS2's. My recommendation is to pay a little more for a professional install of a quality solder chip, so as to avoid butchering your PS2.
