Does playing movies on the PS2 damage your lens? I heard that because the ps2 reads from movies constantly puts strain on the lens or is that just crap?

It doesn't strain it much more than playing games, so i'd say that's a bullsh*t theory. Whoever told you that should get frontal lobotomy.

I don't know if it strains it but what I have noticed is when the laser dies at least with people I know and myself it goes like this:

1st - Problems reading burned movies
2nd - Problems reading retail movies
3rd - Problems reading dual layered games
4th - Problems reading almost games
Last - You are ready to chuck the PS2 out the window

No, it doesn't damage the lens, but over time of constant play the laser develops problems. Like what memnock said.
