Hi everyone,

I have a v5/6 scph-30006R ps2 and I chipped it with a Modbo v2.0. I tried to power it up; the power button lights up but the eject button doesnt. The disc tray wont eject and there is no screen display. What could have went wrong(which pin?).

I also wish to know which pin controls the eject button? I remembered it was F point or something but Modbo v2.0 doesnt have it. I am a newbie and I need lots of guidance.

Any relavant help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have not yet used Modbo 2.0 but we have used hundreds of Modbo 1.1 and they do not work in version 5. Only version 9-12.

I'm thinkin' thats the problem...

But I can't wait to get my hands on a Modbo 2.0 myself to see!!

the new modbo 2.0 works with most versions. however, im guessing it might NOT work. i did a continuity test and all the pins are connected. also i checked if the M N O P points were shorted but they were not.

I tried to start it up, the power button lights up but the eject button lights up for just a little while and switches off. the tray does not eject. any help?

ok i changed the modbo 2.0 chip with another one, since i bought 2. now the disc tray ejects, it reads a game as per normal, but there is no display! tried it with 2 av cables so it isnt the cables. The tv flickers when the ps2 powers up as per normal, but there is no blue screen display and no sound! i really need this last help to complete my mod!

no offense, but that's the kind of things i would
expect from a cheap knock off (clone) chip like Modbo.

if you hooked it all up correctly, and it still did
not work then i would say you have some faulty chips.
and i see it as auto sleep mode. make sure it is not
disabled in some way.

this is so sad, i have the same problem as sabatius, but i did not try the 3V cut off yet.

I will try changing with a RIPPER IV to see if it is indeed my soldering skills suck, or the HK engineers obviously need to do something about this. I doubt I can get an exchange though, and too troublesome =|

alright guys, i just removed the chip and the set works as it originally did. the 2 modbo 2.0 chips i got are definitely faulty. I am 100% sure i did not mess up any pin connections as i checked them thoroughly using short-testing. im also sure i did not bridge any connections (since it works fine without the chip). now the thing is, does anyone know if RIPPER IV supports ASIA ps2? i put in a RIPPER IV, it starts up but gives the RED SCREEN OF DEATH for even originals. I just went to the website and it states USA and PAL sets, and dont have any info on ASIA. Thats what im wondering. Hope someone can englighten me on that; its my 2nd failed attempt to mod a set =(

Yeah I agree with Steimy, you get what you pay for. I am getting my v.4 PS2 chipped so I have read a ton of stuff pertaining to modchips. The consensus from anyone in the know is that the Matrix Infinity and DMS 4 are the two best out there. I decided to go with the DMS 4 Pro because they have extensive customer support and I have read that some people have had issues with updating the Matrix firmware, with their PS2's locking up and stuff. Yeah it might cost a little more but it's worth it in the end. If price is really a concern, go with the Duo2SE. I have read that it is fairly reliable and it'll only set ya back $20 or so. P.S. Steimy is this http://teammodders.com/cust_system.php?console=ps2 your's? Sweet design except now I'll have nightmare's lol.

sigh...so sad. Well I've decided to get a couple of Magic 3.1 chips, whats ur comment on it, Tokijin?

Still I need an answer to whether Ripper IV supports NTSC/J Asia consoles, as I need to know whether I burnt my chip from a previous failed mod attempt.

Thanks to all who have replied to my thread and/or answered my newbie questions.

http://www.modchipstore.com/PS2-Ripper-IV-ModChip-V1-12-PSTwo-161... Hey man we've all done some stupid shiite. I nearly severed my eject ribbon cleaning my PS2 once and was pretty sure I ruined my PS2 after I initially installed my flip top. Turns out it was okay both times, but I was as much lucky as anything else. So just do a little research. Yeah doesn't look like it supports NTSC-JAP. The link I provided says it supports US 1-10, while other's say it supports NTSC 1-12, but doesn't specify it's NTSC-JAP or US.

that's right,

"One Chip Compatible with US: v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, v6, v7/v8, v9 , v10 and v12 Pal: v3, v4, v5, v6, v7/v8, v9, v10, v12"

i saw that too, thats why im enquiring =(
I have another UC set, I might use it if it really is the case. However, if i had blown it already , then i wouldnt risk it on a working ps2 =|

Say, anyone knows if connecting the pins in the wrong order would blow the chip? *hope not*

good choice Tokijin
you'll love the DMS4 Pro
make sure you download the Toxic OS V0.3 for it and load it after
you install the chip.

damn...the 2 modbo 2.0 chips i got are definitely faulty.

1st chip: No video/sound output on boot. DVD drive reads as per normal(spins and reads)

2nd chip: Cant even eject the tray. seems the ReSeT connection on the chip is faulty(just a guess). No video/sound. Has power.

Now, I got them from Divineo. Anyone knows if they allow returns/rebates/reimbursement for modchips? thanks in advance.

I think the Modbo has compatibility issues with being a modbo. I've said it before and I'll say it again, people cheap modchips just aren't worth it.

yes, all modbo chips come with laser fix. in case u didnt know, the fix is only for the slim ps2.

till now i haven got a modbo working, but i guess grounding is very very important. i know now that the GND wire has to be as short as possible, and solder one more extra wire to GND just to play safe.

so far i've got these working:
NH9 (auto detect, good )
Mars( ~ 27 wires, but stable and good)
Magic 3.1(i wouldnt use it again, buggy)
Magic V(Nice to use, direct on mainboard)

Failed:
Ripper IV(either i burnt it, or its really difficult!)
Modbo 2.0 * 2(damn gave me problems, but maybe improper GNDing)
Magic 3.1 (I kinda know its my fault, improper grounding)

I'll be getting a replacement Modbo 2.1 soon, plus i have a DMS4 pro, but i dont have a ps2 to work on =(

hey mate,

i couldnt get the modbo 2.0 to work =( i was still quite a newbie then.

i'll be getting the 2.1 from divineo, it somes the modbo manufacturer changed the look(from what i saw). only very recently, like about 25th Nov.

my advise is(if u trust me lol), GND wire should be probably less than 2cm. 2cm would be a little too long already. ur BIOs wires shouldnt be too long either, as it may result in a black screen. If you have a v5-v11 ps2 and cant get ur Modbo working, i highly recommend the Magic V plus as it solders directly onto the mainboard, so the GND is direct contact with no wire needed.

the modbo 2.0 looks rather confusing to me, as the pin labelling is rather messy. be careful not to get it mixed up, 'cos i did =|
