I am hope some one can help me with a problem I am having with my ps2 I got it second hand. About a month after I bought it when ever I would but a game in be it ps1 or ps2 I recieved the message disc read error. After reseting, switching the power off and unplugging the system it would finally read the disk. When I returned to where I had bought it to ask about the problem I was told there was possible dust on the lens or the disk itself was dirty or scratched. I checked the disk and the disk was fine, I even tried the disk in a friends machine and it worked great, so I opened the playstation up as I was instructed to do by the store and cleaned the lens off and again the system worked. However this time when it started again and I cleaned it out and tried to play a game it will not read the data on the disks, it continually say disk read error. However it will play audio cds but not dvds. What could be the problem? Thanks in advance, and I also tried to find this topic but found nothing so I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong place.

Well it depends really the older fat models

Dont read newer games as well and cause errors

that + dust = time for a new ps2 =./

I no what you mean about the ps3 Inacentz after the things I have heard about the ps2 slim and after the problem with my ps2 I don't think I want to shovel out more for another ps2 the ps3 is sound so much better now. I was thinking of having this one modded but now I am glad I haven't done so. If I get a new what should I be looking for slim or orginal and would it help it last longer if I mod? okay this is really a new thread but whatever.

I would love to wait until ps3 but I hear it may not come out until 2007 I can't wait that long plus it's to costly when they first come out and I am a little weiry with the problems I have had with the ps2 to spend so much money and have the same problem or a new bug to work out. Plus I just got a new game I am dying to beat so I can't wait that long.

that may help, you may need to adjust the laser
and not just clean it.
