That's nothing special and it's quite expensive. My Pioneer DVD-R 109 cost US$50 and it's got the same features as your one and more!

yeah seriously, who'd be crazy enough to pay 140USD on a burner when you can get so many other ones which are just as good for $50-$60. Even the lightscribe HP burners don't go for 140USD.

Internal is the best route to go,if you have the tower space.

$38 including shipping for my latest Benq 1640 from newegg.com! My benqs have the bitsetting capability to booktype the plus format into dvd-rom! Very impressive if you play your backups on a ton of ps2s/stand alones/and pc drives.

My 2 cents!

as much as I love them, that's the one thing about the pioneers... they don't support booktype :( I might be forced to buy from another maker if my 106 dies. Overall I am quite satisfied with my 106 and the 103 I had for a bit which I borrowed from a friend, haven't had many problems, only had some problems at the beginning when I was learning.

If I had to go the external dvd writer route, I'd definetely go with the internal-quality booktyping drive, and place it in an external enclosure to hook it up to usb 2.0

$40 for the bare benq 1620/1640 and $20-$30 for the external enclosure all from newegg.com!

Edit: WESstar, Some of the pioneers can be set to booktype using a hacked firmware called the buffalo firmware. It may be risky, but a last resort option if you have a stand alone or 2 that doesn't recognize your plus or dash backups. I'm not sure of what model/s of pioneers it supports, but you can find the info at cdfreaks.com.
