Guys, Guys, Guys, i really hate these VS Topics, there pointless and the end up on people flaming on each other saying PS2 is better, PS3 is way better. Well since you are talking about these ps2 or ps3, let me put it in simpler form, its like asking, Video Player or DVD player...
I'm afraid that's not the point, have you ever seen or played the PS3 at all? will it do all the same things the PS2 will do? will it play movies and save you money on having a DVD player? have you only seen the graphics? or even played one PS3 game at all? you have no idea what sony will do to the playstation3 but there will be cost cuts on quality technology so it won't be very ultra powerful like the latest pentium 4 and athlon 64 that's what the megagames article is all about telling people it's not the next generation console it's just another version of the same sytems.

Gamer2006, do you have any idea what -you- are talking about?
Firstly, even you have not played the Playstation 3. You have no idea where Sony is taking it's production costs. No where does it say that Sony is opting for cheaper hardware anyway, and if the trailers prove so, the processing power of Sony's Cell Chip is far superior than even the most powerful of AMD Athlon or Pentium 4 on the market, with the exception of maybe 64 bit? We'll just have to see.
Secondly, what do you mean it's not 'not generation' Do you even know the conventional definition of 'next generation'? It is merely a new age of consoles, it doesn't mean it's processing power or anything. Next Generation: New age of consoles.

I'm sorry but I need real proof that the PS3 will knock out the kings of cpu like Athlon or Intel's Pentium 4 these corperations will be makeing these processors for future hardware on PCs before Consoles and the Cell is a IBM replica of these chip sets as far as I can see PC technolgy will alway come out better than console hardware also I never played the PS3 and never will I'm buying a PSP which will be more handy to take with me anywere I go and still dose a great job of giving PS2 quality games in the palm of my hand so I'm not going to argue with cocky little boys who are wasting more money on newer consoles and giving their pocket money to the fat cats of electronic entertainment it's just another cycle with no new features except online gaming wich will never make it to Australia like they promised with the PS2 and I do know what I'm talking about that's why I'm a PC gamer and a PS2 gamer and most next generation gaming starts with PC hardware so maybe you should think more carefuly about the whole issue thankyou.

Another problem with the PS3/Cell design has to do with the extremely limited amount of local memory available to each SPE. This results in a large delay as each SPE places a DMA request on the bus in order to access main memory. This delay makes SPE use by developers impractical. Developers also claim that even when physics calculations for example, are assigned to the SPEs, the Power Processor Element (PPE) which acts as the controller for the SPEs, causes an overall bottleneck as it is hampered by the PowerPC restrictions mentioned above. So the PS3 will also suffer in real world performance."

Lol that went off topic. PS3 obvioulsy will be big. PS2 is more of a retro thing now. probally when the PS4 comes out, it would be much much bigger. High TEC, But for now, PS3 is the next gen with superb graphix, REAL LIFE LIKE graphix, check out fight night round 3 and nba live 2006 to see what i mean
